The cramped carriage was filled with a thick stench. Who knew which genius had invented the idea of locking a chimp and a tiger in the same cage?
Apparently, the circus had an act where a chimp rode a tiger around the ring three times while jumping through flaming hoops. Lots of people liked watching it, so the circus owner had a brilliant idea: lock the chimp and tiger up together first so they could bond.
Fortunately, the tiger called Miss Betty was not wild. The largest prey on her menu was chicken, so she and Bobo got along fairly well.
Besides them, there was also a baby elephant, a lion, and a marten among their companions. Everyone was kept in cages of varying sizes, swaying constantly as the carriage moved.
That was how the Wandering Circus operated. Most of the time, everyone traveled in covered wagons, and opportunities to ride a train were few and far between.
The journey felt long and boring. There was not even a window in the carriage.
Bobo gripped the iron bars with both hands and helplessly stared at the key hanging on the distant carriage wall. It swayed with the moving vehicle, but he simply could not reach it.
He stretched out his paws to grab it, yet that short distance seemed to stretch into Infinity. No matter how hard he tried, it was useless, leaving the chimp in Despair.
"Save your strength, Bobo. We can't escape," the tiger said as she lay nearby. Her eyes were narrowed to slits as she looked at him. "Even if we get out of the cage, then what? This world belongs to humans. Even if we leave this place, all we'll do is enter another, bigger cage."
Several animals had drunk water soaked with meteorites, and
