A cat's expression meant only one thing—curiosity! Curious to death!

"Stop looking at me. I can't tell you about the backup plan yet." Su Ming smiled and turned the cat's head away, keeping it from looking at him with those illegally adorable eyes. "Although we can be sure Insomnia can't observe the Narrative Layer, we still need to guard against CAAT."

Su Ming was not entirely sure whether that thing was watching him, or whether it harbored any subjective malice.

That might be hard to understand, so take the Old Ones as an example.

Most Old Ones bore neither malice nor goodwill toward humanity. They existed amid chaos and disorder, simply as living things.

They woke up and appeared before people, so humanity went mad and died.

Yet they had not actually meant to harm anyone. Humans simply could not withstand the insane impact of something that should not exist, yet did.

CAAT might be similar. It might never have intended to target any particular universe. It merely happened to appear there, and that universe collapsed under the strain of It existing.

That was possible too.

Su Ming had plenty of theories about CAAT, but aside from the intelligence Lucifer had provided, there was still far too little information to build a profile of it.

If blind guessing could solve cases, what would detectives be for? Wasn't Su Ming being a "detective" right now?
