The campus was so quiet he could almost hear his own breathing. Its buildings lay shrouded in darkness, and The World of Action had none of the usual noise of students changing classes. Strangely, however, the air carried the scent of paper and ink.
The teaching building was the most conspicuous structure. It was Gothic in style, and the sight of it in the darkness immediately made Su Ming think of a Vampires' lair.
That was only a casual comparison, though. It was not quite that sinister, just a little.
Its windows were tightly shut, and the steps before its entrance were blanketed with fallen leaves that no one had swept away. The Bell Tower atop it stood silent, as though time itself had stopped at this moment.
From the garden where they stood, a narrow path led directly to the road before the teaching building. White-flowering plants grew on either side, their petals carpeting the flagstones and seeming almost dazzling in the darkness.
The buildings behind the teaching building appeared to be rows of dormitories. Their outer walls had been worn down by time, their colors faded and mottled. His cloze test probably was not meant to be done there.
"Let's go. We're heading into the teaching building. Keep your voices down so Anti-Everything doesn't find us."
