"You look like you've lost quite a bit of weight since I last saw you. What's wrong?"
Su Ming was sitting in a black stone chair. There was no scenery around him at all, only a ring of lava. The heat warped the air constantly, and Strangle had withdrawn into his body.
Before him stood a shriveled devil. Beneath its red skin, it seemed to have nothing but bones, every rib clearly visible.
The other party looked at Su Ming with a chuckle, baring a mouthful of sharp teeth. Squatting on his throne like a monkey, he scratched his belly with his pointed claws upon hearing that.
Like many people who had starved to death, he was skin and bones, except for his swollen stomach, which made him look especially sickly.
"Heh heh, my appetite hasn't been very good lately. I heard you became the Sorcerer Supreme, but I haven't had the chance to congratulate you."
"That's hardly good news. Maybe one day I'll be killed by people like you, heh heh." Su Ming exchanged pleasantries with a smile, one leg crossed over the other, his hands folded atop his knee.
The gaunt devil turned sideways and wedged himself into the hollow of his throne, resting his head against one armrest while raising both legs high.
"At least I, Mephisto, have no intention of invading the Main Dimension. Doing a little business like this is enough for now."
Su Ming smiled. Mephisto's business was anything but small. He practically held a monopoly over soul deals on Earth, with countless devils under his command constantly searching for customers.
Those customers were generally gamblers who had lost everything, terminally ill patients, prostitutes driven to despair, or fools with far too much curiosity.
Mephisto would give them whatever they wanted—money, love, health, hope.
