The night breeze was slightly cool. After several awkward exchanges, even a nice guy like Clark had no idea how to restart the conversation.

The dashboard gave off a faint glow. All three were swallowed by darkness, with only the occasional streetlamp casting brief flashes of light across their faces.

Su Ming's wreck of a car was being towed along, occasionally making noises like parts were falling apart. He rolled down the window beside him, intending to get some fresh air. Today had truly been unlucky.

The Daily Planet was located in the New Troy District at the heart of Metropolis, a massive delta at the river mouth. Skyscrapers stood everywhere, and it was the area with the highest concentration of wealthy people.

A poor schmuck like Su Ming could only live on the south bank across the river, in the Queen's Park District. Though it had a nice name, it was actually a chaotic area filled with migrant workers, illegal immigrants, and every major gang.

He knew that successful reporters like Clark and Lois might not be able to afford property in New Troy, but renting an apartment downtown would not be a problem for them. They were going out of their way to take him home, since their routes definitely ran in opposite directions.

Looking at the rushing river beneath the bridge, like a black ribbon, Su Ming saw the round moon reflected dimly upon it. For some reason, he felt as though there was a bat-shaped figure on the moon. Very strange.

Nature truly was miraculous.

"Are you and Lois dating?"

Su Ming shifted the topic away from himself and asked about the two of them instead.

Clark rubbed his palms together, then scratched his short black hair. "No, not yet. Um..."

"No, we're not dating."
