Gu Junhao walked into the gatehouse, his steps much slower than usual.
The elderly security guard sat in the old swivel chair, holding his insulated cup. After hearing what his nephew had to say, he remained silent for a long time.
"Uncle, once this month is over, stop coming in."
The old man's lips moved before he finally squeezed out, "What about my wages..."
"They'll pay you everything you're owed. Don't worry."
"Why is this happening? They fired you, and you're just accepting it? Why not go see Liu Chengde?"
"Uncle, let it go. At your age, it's time you retired anyway. Besides, I'm not losing out!"
Gu Junhao didn't linger. He passed through the gatehouse and entered the office building's lobby.
The noticeboard was on the wall to the right of the ground-floor entrance.
The dismissal notice was conspicuous. He had left in such a hurry earlier that he hadn't noticed it at all.
A3 paper, black lettering on a white background, with the official seal stamped at the bottom.
He moved closer and read it line by line.
The wording was very polite.
There was no mention of gambling or any specific incident. It simply said that "due to violations of the company's relevant management policies," a decision had been made, following deliberation, to terminate his employment.
After reading it, Gu Junhao gave a twitch of his lips.
Wang Xiaoliang had at least spared him some dignity.
Once word got out, people would at most make a few comments about "internal restructuring at Chengyou," rather than spreading the gambling incident all over town.
He took out his phone, opened the camera, and took a picture of the noticeboard.
He adjusted the angle to make sure every word was clear.
This photo would come in handy.
