Chen Jue retains combat experience from a previous life and knows events from the original story's timeline. Before entering Spirit Hall, he spends two and a half years in the Star Dou Great Forest, where he practices hand-to-hand combat 1 3 40.

He arrives at Spirit Hall's main hall in ragged clothing to awaken his martial soul. His triple martial souls and unusually high innate soul power attract both Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu, who compete to recruit him. Chen Jue chooses Bibi Dong as his master while respectfully declining Qian Daoliu 1 2 3.

During the following thirteen years, he remains under Spirit Hall's protection, looks after Hu Liena, and regularly spars with Qian Renxue. Even while undercover in the Heaven Dou Empire, Qian Renxue occasionally returns to train with him 4.

He is affectionate toward his partners and attentive to their insecurity. When Hu Liena fears being abandoned, he accepts responsibility for failing to reassure her and promises that, as his first woman, she holds a special place in his heart. He also follows Zhu Zhuqing when he learns she has been crying 12 36.

His protectiveness can become ruthless. He checks that Yan is unharmed after defeating him, but kills four Soul Ancestors who refuse his warning to retreat. When Canghui Academy students threaten his partners, he breaks an aggressor's wrist and severely beats their teacher 6 9 43 44.
