It was a scar.
Long, deep, and even a little twisted. As her fingertips passed over it, she could clearly feel the difference between the raised tissue and the skin around it.
Pu Yu abruptly stopped moving.
Her lips, which had been responding to his kiss, went still too.
Yuan Su noticed the change in her.
He pulled back a little, his forehead still resting against hers. His breathing was heavy, his eyes still dark with lingering desire. "What's wrong?"
Pu Yu said nothing.
Her hand trembled as she gently stroked the scar through the white fabric, again and again.
Yuan Su's body instantly stiffened, and veins bulged on the back of the hand braced beside her on the bed.
"What is this?"
Pu Yu's voice trembled.
She pushed him back a little and sat upright.
The light in the room wasn't bright, but it was enough for her to see his jaw tighten instantly.
Her gaze fixed on his left shoulder, as though she could see the truth through that thin layer of fabric.
"Yuan Su, what is this?"
Yuan Su stopped kissing her.
He turned his head, avoiding her eyes, and casually tugged at his collar, trying to conceal what was wrong there.
"It's nothing."
His voice grew flat. Most of the intimate atmosphere vanished at once, replaced by deliberate evasiveness. "I bumped into something while working a while back."
"Bumped into something?"
Pu Yu's eyes instantly reddened, and a stubborn edge entered her voice. "What could you possibly bump into to end up like this? Could one bump leave a scar this long? This deep to the touch? Do you think I'm stupid? This was obviously a serious injury..."
As she spoke, she reached to lift the hem of his shirt.
"Let me see!"
"It's really fine."
