In a sparsely populated stretch of wasteland.
For the tenth time, Shawn explained the essentials of Apparition to Purple Shadow, who listened with a tilted head.
"Purple Shadow, you have to remember this important point. Apparition requires the three Ds: destination, determination, and deliberation!"
"Chirp?"
"Step one: focus your mind on your destination, the center of that wooden hoop."
"Step two: make up your mind and think about how you absolutely must reach your destination! Let the desire to go there fill your entire body, starting from your brain!"
"Step three: turn on the spot, subconsciously letting your magical energy scan your body until it becomes immaterial, then move with deliberation!"
"Chirp?"
Seeing the confusion still filling Purple Shadow's eyes, Shawn couldn't help pressing a hand to his forehead.
"Why don't you give it a try first?"
A thoughtful look flashed in Purple Shadow's eyes. The little bird nodded, then began spinning on the spot, round and round and round...
Thud.
Purple Shadow fell to the ground, those dazzling purple-black eyes dazed and unfocused. The lower eyelids kept fluttering, while muddled coos spilled from the bird's beak.
(Fun fact: birds' eyelids close upward from below.)
Shawn sighed and went over to scoop the seemingly drunken Purple Shadow into his arms. The little bird pitifully nuzzled him, looking aggrieved, as though to say, I tried my best.
Shawn couldn't help laughing.
He had made too many assumptions.
Fantastic beasts and wizards weren't even the same kind of being. Their magic worked differently, so how could this approach to Apparition possibly succeed?
Still, he wasn't quite ready to give up. After some thought, he summoned Kreacher.
Whoosh.
The air ahead warped slightly, and Kreacher appeared on the spot. He immediately bowed and asked,
"Master, what are your orders?"
Shawn got straight to
