Shawn's thoughts raced, but he still could not make sense of it all.
He wondered whether to subdue the man immediately or let things play out to catch someone bigger. Hogwarts really had every kind of freak lurking around these days.
Moody drew the Fiendfyre out through the Red Cap's nose and mouth. Apart from looking rather dispirited, the creature was actually unharmed.
His alchemical eye whirled around, and he bellowed at Shawn.
"Shawn, I hear you've done quite a bit of research into Fiendfyre too. Some of the students still seemed a little confused by my lesson.
"Why don't you give everyone another demonstration?"
Shawn raised an eyebrow. This fellow was certainly making things interesting today.
Unfazed, he stood and prepared to step forward, intending to pit a different method of control against the other man's technique.
Just then, an older student knocked on the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom door.
Knock, knock.
"Professor, the headmaster sent me to ask the chief, Draco, and Harry to go to the third floor for their wand inspections."
Moody whipped around and gave the older student a vicious glare.
Remembering that these were Dumbledore's instructions, he turned back with a disgruntled expression and waved impatiently.
"Go on, then. Go."
Shawn blinked. Why did they need him for a wand inspection?
Still, he did not dwell on it and turned to beckon Harry and Draco.
"What are you standing around for? Bring your wands. Let's go."
Harry and Draco had also been startled by Moody's increasingly brutal and unrestrained teaching.
Only just recovering, they hurriedly packed up their textbooks and followed Shawn outside.
As Shawn passed the lectern, he exchanged a look with Moody. The man remained as vicious as ever, without a trace of fear.
Shawn sensed a difference.
