"Dark Elves?"
Mercer was certainly familiar with the race. What puzzled him was that the Dark Elves could actually pull off something like this.
The moment that thought surfaced, a nameless fury came from nowhere and flooded Mercer's mind.
"Damn it, was this caused by another change in the timeline? I underestimated them. Does that mean Asgard lost?"
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe Mercer remembered, the Dark Elves had planned to use the Reality Stone to plunge the entire universe into darkness.
In the movie, Thor had successfully stopped them. That was hardly surprising, since the movie about that incident was called "Thor." Of course Thor would solve the problem.
But Mercer now lived in a "What If...?" universe that had diverged from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even surpassed it.
Here, there was no need to worry about movie budgets.
Everyone's abilities could be realized to their fullest.
Because the Dark Elves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had been so pathetic, Mercer hadn't taken it too seriously even when he learned they had secretly taken the Reality Stone from Earth.
He had never imagined that one careless mistake would lead to such an enormous change.
Once Asgard received his message, they would surely send troops against the Dark Elves.
But what was happening on Earth now also indicated that Asgard had lost the battle and failed to stop them.
"No wonder. No wonder they dared to come straight to Earth and take the Reality Stone. Looks like they already had everything in place and were just waiting for the final piece."
Mercer narrowed his eyes, showing a rare hint of killing intent. He asked Mysterio, "What is S.H.I.E.L.D. doing?"
"Nick Fury put together a superhero team called the Avengers. They're rescuing people in the city right now," Mysterio replied.
