People thought it was just an ordinary shower. Even those caught in it barely reacted, continuing on their way or playing around as before.
Some even found the summer rain refreshing and deliberately went outside to face it, looking thoroughly content.
As time passed, the areas touched by the rain grew itchier and itchier, making people unable to resist scratching.
But no matter how much they scratched, the itching only worsened, and they scratched harder and harder.
They did not stop even after breaking the skin. The slight pain brought them some relief.
Yet the instant they paused, the itching overwhelmed them again, forcing them to keep scratching until their flesh was a bloody mess.
Their arms, faces, and thighs were all clawed raw.
An hour later, the skin of those caught in the rain turned deathly pale. Their muscle tissue rotted at an alarming rate, and their expressions began to twist into vicious grimaces.
In the worst cases, their jaws rotted until they could no longer hold together and fell away, exposing large stretches of tissue inside their mouths. It was utterly horrifying.
By this stage, they... no, they should now be called "it."
They had completely transformed into Blacklight zombies and begun to crave fresh flesh.
And the place with the most fresh flesh was the street-the street crowded with people coming and going.
Once a Blacklight zombie appeared, it bit everyone it saw. Several people were bitten before they could even react, and one infection became ten, then ten became a hundred.
The Blacklight zombies spread at an astonishing rate in an extremely short time.
Soon, nearly a third of Manhattan had fallen.
