Their conversation did not last long. After just a few exchanges, the sound of an explosion drew their attention.
Mercer and Peter stood up at the same time and looked in that direction.
"What place is that?" Mercer asked.
Peter looked that way and frowned. "If I remember right... that's the Greenwich Museum!"
The girls all ran over, chattering over one another.
It was all pointless questions like "What happened?" and "Why was there an explosion?"
"Why would the museum suddenly explode?" Ignoring their startled remarks, Mercer quietly asked Peter beside him, "Are you going?"
Peter looked toward the explosion, then at Gwen Stacy beside him, and slowly nodded. "I'm going!"
Seeing that he was just as decisive as the Spider-Man he had imagined, Mercer was pleased. "Then how are you planning to leave?"
Peter thought for a moment, then suddenly put on a surprised expression and said to Mercer, "You want me to come over to your place for a bit? Sure."
While Mercer was still taken aback by those words, Peter turned to Gwen Stacy. "It doesn't look very safe here. You girls should head back first. I'm going to hang out at his place. I'll be back at the hotel before tonight."
Without giving Gwen Stacy and the others a chance to respond, he grabbed Mercer and headed away from the hotel.
Watching Peter whisper something to Mercer as they left, Gwen Stacy felt a little helpless. Another explosion rang out from the nearby museum, making the girls scream. With no time to think about it any further, they hurried back, not daring to linger.
The two reached an alley, and Peter immediately changed into his spider suit. He had been wearing it underneath his clothes all along.
