Background / History

The Gu lineage was once counted among the ancient Ten Fiends of the Nine Heavens, alongside the True Dragon and Qilin. Its members are exceptionally rare, and reproduction is difficult; nevertheless, an individual who emerges into the world is considered a terrifying opponent 16.

At the end of Immortal Ancient, the Gu Clan left the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths and joined the Foreign Realm. It brought the Yin-Yang Furnace and its historic reception hall with it 15 31 37.

The clan retains a bitter grievance against its former homeland. Gu Yi claims that infighting and obstruction by their own people prevented the clan’s ancestor from becoming a king. Gu Rong likewise understands this betrayal as the cause of the ancestor’s failed ascension 37 54. Despite that belief, He Xian knows that the old Gu has already become an Immortal King—a fact unknown to the wider world 35.

Abilities & Skills

Severing Void and Spatial Control

The Gu Clan’s spatial art is associated with the left hand. Gu Rong uses it both offensively and to restrain an opponent 16 17.

  • Severing Void: Fractures space and shatters He Xian’s enormous golden mountain 16.
  • Spatial restraint: Fixes the surrounding void in place, slowing He Xian’s movements 16.
  • Space Blade: Gu Rong later bisects an Escape One imperial sovereign with a single blade 52.
  • Limit: He Xian breaks the spatial restraint through raw physical power 16.

Severing Time

The clan’s temporal art is associated with the right hand. It manifests as swords of time intended to sever an opponent’s years of life 17.

  • Strikes the primordial spirit, rather than relying on damage to the flesh 17.
  • Produces dense sword light capable of filling the battlefield 17.
  • Inspires He Xian to consider eliminating a body cultivator’s spiritual weakness by fusing the primordial spirit with the flesh 17.

Time Reversal

Gu Rong reverses the effects of devastating injuries, drawing scattered blood and flesh back together to reconstruct his body 17 18.

  • Restores wounds even after He Xian punches through his chest 18.
  • Limit: Repeated destruction eventually exceeds his ability to recover. After his body has been blasted apart seven times, his time powers can no longer keep pace 18.

Combined Time and Space

The clan possesses both temporal and spatial Daos, which form the foundation of its exceptional combat power 16 17.

  • Gu Rong combines them to break He Xian’s Heaven Devourer Furnace and severely wound him 17.
  • The clan’s soul flame controls these powers; damage to Gu Rong’s brow and primordial spirit threatens their source 18.

Karmic Sensitivity

The clan is exceptionally sensitive to certain karmic connections involving its lineage 32.

  • Its experts foresee He Xian’s visit, though not the exact date 32.
  • A Supreme consequently postpones seclusion to await his arrival 32.

Ancestral Land

Stone Mountains and Fire Valley

  • Outer grounds: Vast, mist-covered stone mountains possess a heavy, domineering presence and a mysterious force. Outsiders ordinarily cannot approach the clan’s dwelling 31.
  • Cultivation grounds: Numerous beings cultivate in seclusion within the ancestral land 31.
  • Restricted valley: During the furnace preparations, visitors are barred from coming within ten thousand zhang of the site 32.
  • Natural Dao fire: Flames emerge from the mountains and underground, requiring only slight stimulation rather than being conjured by cultivators 32.
  • Entry threshold: The valley’s heat would melt ordinary creatures; entrants generally require at least Self-Slaying Realm strength 32.

Accounts of the valley’s flames differ. One attributes them to tangible Dao traces merging with underground lava; another holds that the ancestor who fought the True Dragon imprinted his Dao there while refining medicine 32.

Metal Halls

  • The clan’s true heart is a mountain-side complex of metal halls surrounded by immortal mist, reserved for honored guests and visiting Immortals 37.
  • Its reception hall was transported from the Nine Heavens and retains profound Dao resonances left by earlier visitors 37.
  • Immortal King Wuzhong and the Reincarnation Immortal King visited the hall in the previous era 37.

Treasures & Resources

Yin-Yang Furnace

The clan’s supreme treasure is an immortal furnace brought from the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths. It ranks among the Foreign Realm’s foremost treasures and is coveted even by Undying Kings 31 32.

Component / Property Function
Yang Furnace Breaks down materials, including powerful corpses and precious medicines 32 33.
Yin Furnace Brings forth creation, manifests the Great Dao, and receives nourishment from the refined materials 32 33.
Yin-Yang analysis Reduces things to yin and yang energies and reveals their underlying laws, including complete Dao traces from Emperor Clan corpses 33.
Body refinement Uses yin-yang forces and flames to destroy and reconstruct the body; He Xian emerges with a true Indestructible Golden Body 34.
Durability Has endured countless ages, battles, and the baptism of powerful experts’ Great Daos 32.
  • Danger: Its Dao-analysis sounds injure outside observers, including Supremes. Clan members are warned not to resonate with it during this process 33.
  • Restriction: For more than half an epoch, the furnace has remained confined to the valley because it concerns the clan’s survival. Its connection to the ancestor’s bodily suppression is presented as legend 32.
  • Cultivation use: Generations of Gu experts have nurtured the furnace, making it gentler and more suitable for enlightenment 33.

Other Resources

  • Precious medicines, king-blood-stained stones, and a Golden Immortal Herb — supplied for He Xian and Gu Hong’s joint refinement 32.
  • Immortal wine — served to He Xian after his tribulation; its fragrance alone makes him feel tipsy 37.

Relationships

  • He Xian / Crane Clan — Initially Gu Rong’s tournament opponent, later an honored guest and prospective protector. The Gu Clan lends him its furnace while securing benefits for Gu Hong and cultivating a favor from a potential future king 16 32 37.
  • Nine Heavens and Ten Earths — The clan’s original homeland and the target of its enduring resentment over the alleged betrayal of its ancestor 15 37 54.
  • Foreign Realm’s Undying Kings — Covet the Yin-Yang Furnace; the text states that their acceptance of the Gu Clan prevented them from storming its grounds to seize it 32.
  • Immortal King Wuzhong and Reincarnation Immortal King — Distinguished visitors to the clan’s reception hall in the previous era 37.
