Lorne pulled his hat brim lower and quickened his pace, weaving through Bayam's bustling evening streets.
Suddenly, his brow furrowed slightly. Just now, he had sensed another trace of an exceedingly faint, peculiar fluctuation in spirituality, utterly at odds with his surroundings.
Instinctively, he raised his head and looked toward its source.
Then he saw a woman in a simple, pristine white robe slowly approaching him from across the street.
The woman had black hair, blue eyes, and delicate, exquisite features. Her skin was snowy white and as youthful as a young girl's, and she possessed an indescribable allure that seemed capable of stealing a person's soul. Though she walked among the crowd, she seemed isolated from the entire world. Everyone's eyes were drawn irresistibly toward her.
Lorne was no exception. Without thinking, he gave her another look.
Katarina noticed his gaze as well. She smiled faintly, her expression seductive.
Yet just as she was about to step forward and "tease" this bespectacled young man who seemed a little unusual, Lorne abruptly collected himself and averted his eyes. Then he brushed past her without looking back and disappeared into the crowd.
The smile on Katarina's face stiffened slightly.
As a veteran Demoness, she felt challenged.
She stopped and turned, watching the retreating figure who had left without the slightest reluctance. Resting a slender finger lightly against her chin, she fell into thought.
She did not believe her charm was lacking. Nor did she believe there could be a man in this world who could remain,
completely unmoved by that smile of hers.
She licked her red lips and chuckled.
"Interesting."
Beautiful women might be a feast for the eyes, but this was no time to pay attention to things like that!
Lorne told himself this as he hurried along.
