Sherlock Moriarty?
Lorne knew both those names very well when taken separately. But why did they suddenly seem so unfamiliar when put together?
Honestly, the instant he heard that name, Lorne felt an overwhelming sense of strangeness.
After all, before he transmigrated, even people who knew next to nothing about Western literature would surely have heard the celebrated name Sherlock Holmes.
Both were called Sherlock, and both were detectives-
But if I remember correctly, Moriarty was the surname of Holmes's archenemy, that "Napoleon of Crime," wasn't it? What a twisted sense of humor. Putting two archenemies' names together... was that really just a coincidence?
In theory, Sherlock is an actual given name, and Moriarty is an actual surname. But for them to just happen to come together like this... did that Roselle fellow plagiarize some novel he shouldn't have?
Or is this man a transmigrator?
"Are you... all right?" Isengard asked when he noticed Lorne's expression suddenly sour.
"No, I'm fine." Lorne immediately collected himself. "Sir, do you know anything more about this detective named Sherlock Moriarty?"
Isengard took a puff of his pipe. "He seems to be from out of town, and he mostly takes insignificant little cases at the Detective Guild. So what I know is limited to what's written in that file."
As he spoke, Isengard handed over a slightly yellowed copy of the Backlund Post from the table. "This has the advertisement he placed when he first arrived in Backlund."
Lorne took the newspaper and glanced at the advertisement.
[Sherlock Moriarty-a private detective skilled at handling all manner of difficult affairs]
Lorne hesitated, then asked tentatively, "Do you have any... particular thoughts about his name?"
"Thoughts?" Isengard considered it. "There's nothing particularly unusual about the name. Or do you think it's an alias?"
"No, it's nothing."
