Lorne's meeting with Duchess Georgina lasted quite some time.
Throughout it, Lorne presented himself as a man of righteous conviction. At the same time, drawing on his memories of the nobles he had met, he put on the air of someone who wanted a share of the spoils before the new order arrived, yet felt apprehensive and uncertain about political struggles at the highest level.
To be honest, this version of Lorne seemed a little inexperienced, hardly in keeping with the confident image of the Viscount Hero.
But Viscount Scott was, after all, still a newcomer to Loen's political circles. Such awkwardness and unease before a powerful duchess who was also a demigod were entirely reasonable-and made his performance all the more convincing.
In truth, Lorne's voluntary declaration of allegiance today differed considerably from Viscount Scott's previous public image: a man interested only in making money, with no political ambitions, who even seemed somewhat above worldly affairs.
To Duchess Georgina, however, this change was hardly surprising. It could even be called inevitable.
After all, Loen's political situation had never been this chaotic before. Although the Conservative Party and the New Party had always fought fiercely, the situation had barely maintained a delicate balance. Viscount Scott was so famous, with so many accolades and labels attached to him, that rashly taking a political side back then would only have backfired, leaving neither side pleased. He had been better off using his detached position to focus on making money. Under normal circumstances, no politician foolish enough to offend him would have appeared anyway.
Thus, even when both parties repeatedly sent people to sound him out and court him, Viscount Scott remained unmoved, displaying no interest in politics.
Everyone considered that a reasonable choice. At most, a few ambitious figures privately sneered that
