The scent of Lielangqi drifted through the air. Danitz's pupils contracted slightly as he watched "Zombie" Maveti suddenly attack him.
No, "Steel" Maveti wasn't the only one attacking him. A Pyromaniac had keen eyesight and a sensitive nose. Danitz's eyes shifted briefly, and he easily spotted two accomplices behind Maveti: Scawl and Huntley!
Three mid-sequence Beyonders were attacking him at once, and he was only a Sequence 7 Pyromaniac. Danitz even spotted numerous zombies radiating the aura of death stationed in the darkness of the warehouse. Apparently, they intended to capture him outright.
I'm only a Sequence 7 Beyonder! For the first time, Danitz began to hate his overly keen senses. He realized, to his sorrow, that he could detect these enemies lying in ambush, but he couldn't evade them.
Sorry, Dad, Mom. Sorry, Captain. I might not be coming back-
Danitz's mind raced. In that moment of crisis, he activated the black cloak draped over him. It was a Mystical Item meant to protect its wearer, so he generally wore it outdoors unless he absolutely had to dress normally.
Now, Danitz could only trust his judgment. He reckoned this attack wouldn't kill him outright. He would have a chance to flee toward the White Agate and ask those terrifying adventurers for help.
But just as "Steel" Maveti closed in, a pitch-black Flame Spear flashed through the air and pinned him hard to the ground!
With a swish, Danitz felt an excruciating pain tear through his chest and abdomen, though it wasn't as terrible as he had imagined. He split off a shadow to conceal the direction he was taking and, just as planned, desperately fled toward the edge of Seafront Street.
Flame knew we were here? Behind Maveti, the other Beyonders were startled, but quickly realized that was impossible.
