At the entrance to Konoha Ninja Academy, after Sasuke Uchiha had gone inside, Uchiha Itachi looked at Tianyun Hyuga and asked coolly, "Do I know you? Why do you seem so familiar with me?"
Tianyun Hyuga chuckled softly. "You're the famous genius ninja, Uchiha Itachi. As someone who's also called a genius, of course I'd look into you. If you mean whether I know who you are, then yes, you could say that."
Uchiha Itachi shook his head. "No, that's not what I meant. I meant knowing me very well."
Tianyun Hyuga smiled and asked in return, "This is our first meeting, isn't it? Why would you think I know you so well?"
"Instinct," Uchiha Itachi replied bluntly.
Tianyun Hyuga raised an eyebrow. "All right, I have nothing to say to that. Sorry for the trouble, but would you drop the genjutsu? Don't bother with these little tricks. They won't work on me. If you've got the ability, try something real."
Uchiha Itachi was genuinely surprised. Even an ordinary jonin would have struggled to notice the suggestive ninjutsu he had just cast, yet this six-year-old child had already seen through it. He couldn't help being astonished by Tianyun Hyuga's abilities.
Withdrawing the suggestive ninjutsu, Uchiha Itachi gave Tianyun Hyuga a serious look. "You live up to your reputation as the Ninja Academy's greatest genius. I apologize for what I just did. Let's talk again when we have the chance."
After apologizing to Tianyun Hyuga, Uchiha Itachi immediately turned and left.
As soon as Uchiha Itachi was gone, Tianyun Hyuga couldn't help wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.
Uchiha Itachi's genjutsu had nearly made him spill the secrets in his heart. If the system hadn't notified him that another enhancement option had appeared, he wouldn't even have known he was under a genjutsu.
The thought that he might have revealed his secrets left Tianyun Hyuga drenched in cold sweat. He felt he ought to enhance his soul's abilities; otherwise, if he encountered a genjutsu expert like Uchiha Itachi again, he would fall victim all too easily.
But when he saw the cost of enhancing his soul, Tianyun Hyuga could only look up at the sky and sigh. The staggering price of one billion left him with nothing else to do.
After sighing for a while, Tianyun Hyuga began considering the unexpected issue that had just come up: he could actually enhance an enemy's ninjutsu after it hit him. That struck him as rather strange.
He didn't know whether enhancing a ninjutsu attacking him would make it hit him even harder, or whether the enhancement would reflect it back. That was a question worth exploring.
Having discovered a new use for the enhancement system, Tianyun Hyuga no longer wanted to linger outside the Ninja Academy. He put the matter of Uchiha Itachi aside and ran straight back to the Hyuga Clan's residential grounds.
Tianyun Hyuga was heading to the Hyuga Clan to find Hinata Hyuga. At the moment, she was the only person he could trust to some extent. He could have her use ninjutsu on him and see what happened.
Tianyun Hyuga often visited Hyuga Hiashi's home, so all the guards there knew him. He rushed all the way to the door of Hinata Hyuga's room without any ninja stopping him.
Hinata Hyuga had gotten up early to train, and now that she had finished, it was time for breakfast. When she heard footsteps outside her room, she knew Tianyun Hyuga was there, so she set down her breakfast and went out to greet him.
Preoccupied with the matter of ninjutsu, Tianyun Hyuga spoke as soon as Hinata Hyuga came out. "Hinata, find somewhere with no one around. I want to test some ninjutsu. Make sure it's somewhere quiet."
Hinata Hyuga obediently led Tianyun Hyuga along several small paths through the mansion grounds until they reached a distinctive little building. "This is the Meditation Room. I sometimes train inside, too. No one comes here, so you can do your tests without worrying."
The Meditation Room stood at the very back of Hinata Hyuga's home, surrounded by small planted groves, with no other buildings nearby. It was indeed an excellent spot.
Satisfied, Tianyun Hyuga said, "Come on, let's go inside and test the ninjutsu. It won't take long. Five minutes should do it."
Hinata Hyuga was curious about what ninjutsu Tianyun Hyuga wanted to test, but she was too timid to ask when he didn't explain. She quietly followed him into the Meditation Room.
The Meditation Room covered roughly three hundred square meters and was about ten meters high. Its walls were built from blue-gray wooden planks, while the floor was laid with yellow-brown boards.
After a quick look around the Meditation Room, Tianyun Hyuga turned and asked, "Hinata, can you use genjutsu? Even the most basic kind will do."
"I only know one genjutsu, the most basic Binding Technique," Hinata Hyuga said.
"That'll work. Try casting it on me," Tianyun Hyuga said.
"Huh? Isn't that a bad idea?" Hinata Hyuga hesitated.
"What are you afraid of? It's only a Binding Technique. Do you think it can do anything to me?" Tianyun Hyuga reassured her.
Thinking it over, Hinata Hyuga agreed. She knew Tianyun Hyuga's strength fairly well, and she felt that even an ordinary chunin would be no match for him. She nodded. "All right! Master, get ready. I'll cast the genjutsu right away."
"Hurry up and start!" Tianyun Hyuga said impatiently.
Hinata Hyuga said no more. She immediately formed hand seals and cast the D-rank genjutsu, Binding Technique, on Tianyun Hyuga, drawing him into an illusion.
Inside the illusion, Tianyun Hyuga was speechless at Hinata Hyuga's genjutsu. She clearly had little talent for it. The illusory rope she had created was as thin as a twisted dough stick, and it didn't look much like a rope, either. One glance was enough to tell it was fake.
Shaking his head helplessly, Tianyun Hyuga couldn't be bothered to worry about Hinata Hyuga's talent for genjutsu. He went straight to the enhancement options and chose to spend one hundred thousand yuan to enhance the genjutsu she had cast. Then he felt its effects suddenly vanish.
"Uh, what happened?" Tianyun Hyuga was surprised to discover that the hundred-thousand-yuan enhancement fee had been refunded immediately.
After examining the system carefully, he was dismayed to find that it offered no explanation whatsoever. In any case, his enhancement seemed to have failed.
After standing in the room and pondering with a frown for two minutes, Tianyun Hyuga arrived at a fairly plausible answer. Although the genjutsu was affecting him and he could select it for enhancement, it wasn't actually part of him. As a result, when he chose to enhance it, the enhancement failed outright, and the genjutsu vanished because of that failure.
