January 5, 2059.
Morning.
"Brother, my inauguration ceremony as Inspector is this afternoon. Want to come?" Luo Feng asked.
"No time. I need to cultivate." Yun He lay in his recliner with his eyes closed, leisurely basking in the winter sun as he answered lazily.
"You're cultivating?" Luo Feng gave him a sidelong look full of contempt. How does anything about you right now look like cultivation?
"Yep. Can't help it. The system gave me too much, so all I can do is cultivate hard."
"My cultivation consists of sunbathing," Yun He said lazily.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Luo Feng was utterly baffled. He understood every word, but put together, they made no sense to him.
Luo Feng felt that Yun He had grown slothful ever since returning from the No. 9 Ancient Civilization Ruins. He used to stay home cultivating all day, but now he spent all day lying around in the sun.
Had he lost all ambition after reaching the planetary level and let himself go?
Luo Feng felt he needed to remind Brother Yun that although the planetary level was already very powerful on Earth, it was nothing in the universe. He needed to have some sense of danger.
"Have you noticed that this winter is colder?" Yun He suddenly asked.
"What does the weather have to do with this?" Luo Feng was somewhat annoyed that Yun He had changed the subject, but after thinking it over, he nodded. "It does seem colder than in previous years. My mom even said this morning that this winter was especially cold."
A slight drop in temperature might not be very noticeable to fighters, nor would they pay much attention to it, but ordinary people felt it much more keenly.
"Right, that makes sense. I've absorbed a lot of the energy from the sunlight falling on all of Jiangnan Base City, so of course the weather has gotten colder," Yun He explained.
Luo Feng's eyes widened in disbelief. "Brother, you're joking, right?"
Absorbing the energy from the sunlight falling on all of Jiangnan Base City?
Was that even possible?
Yun He raised his eyelids slightly, seemingly rolling his eyes. "Who has time to joke with you? If you weren't my little brother, I wouldn't bother explaining all this."
"Isn't this great? With me here, Jiangnan Base City's summers will be cooler from now on. Hmm, the winters will be cooler too!"
The corner of Luo Feng's mouth twitched. He was beginning to believe it. After all, Yun He had no reason to joke with him about something like this, and it wasn't his style.
"Then the two hundred million people in Jiangnan Base City and the Eight Satellite Cities really ought to thank you properly." Luo Feng was speechless. I've found the culprit behind the cold weather. Should I report him?
"Oh, what's the big deal? Think about summer! Won't everyone be comfortable when it's cool in summer? I guarantee I'll keep the temperature around twenty-six degrees. Morning, noon, and night," Yun He said, defending his actions.
I've given all of Jiangnan Base City and the Eight Satellite Cities free air-conditioning. What more do you want? Sure, winter's a little colder, but summer's cool!
Maybe global temperatures will even drop a degree or two because of this!
Ever heard of the greenhouse effect?
Please call me the Cool Ambassador!
Luo Feng shook his head and turned to leave, at a loss for words.
Yun He continued working hard at sunbathing.
Bzz-
Before long, his body trembled.
Hmm.
Planetary level three.
The energy required by a tenfold gene level really was outrageous. He was only in the early planetary level now, and the energy demands would become increasingly absurd later.
It had been over three months since he reached the planetary level. Even after desperately absorbing sunlight, moonlight, and cosmic energy every day, he had only advanced from planetary level one to level three.
Should I keep all of Jiangnan Base City at around fifteen degrees this summer instead?
Yun He felt a little troubled. Would I end up tanning as dark as Louis Koo?
Ah, my poor fair, tender skin.
He sighed and returned his attention to comprehending the Laws.
The next morning.
Yun He leisurely brewed a cup of green tea, sat down in the recliner on his balcony, and prepared to begin his daily cultivation.
Bzz, bzz, bzz-
Hmm?
The Communication Watch on the small round table beside him vibrated.
Yun He picked it up and looked. No need to ask-it was Luo Feng again.
"Hello?"
"Brother, I'm on Mist Island right now. They've discovered something good here called Wood Bud Crystals... Brother, hurry over..." Luo Feng's voice came through the call, sounding somewhat urgent.
"Look for them yourself, Luo Feng. I won't join the fun." Yun He shook his head.
"Brother, Wood Bud Crystals are extremely precious treasures even in the universe!" Luo Feng said anxiously.
"What's so precious about them? That's only true for Earth as it is now. Take your time playing around there. I'm not interested. If you find a hundred or so, just give me some for snacks." Yun He found it rather amusing, then ended the call.
He took a sip of green tea and shook his head.
Wood Bud Crystals might be treasures to ordinary planetary-level cultivators, but with his gene level, anything short of dozens or even a hundred of them would barely help.
The few Babata had tossed out wouldn't even be enough to fill the gaps between his teeth. He wouldn't bother burrowing underground like a rat.
"Wood Bud Crystals... Does that mean Babata is about to show up too? Luo Feng's first major opportunity." Yun He smiled.
A year and a half later.
June 1, 2060.
Summer blazed.
Yet all of Jiangnan Base City remained refreshingly cool.
Starting the previous year, people had discovered that Jiangnan Base City no longer had a summer.
Throughout the previous summer, temperatures had stayed around twenty to twenty-one degrees, making the climate cool and pleasant.
But when winter arrived, it became so cold that people didn't want to leave their homes.
Along with this, average global temperatures had dropped by around two to three degrees over the previous year.
Many experts loudly proclaimed that Earth was about to enter a little ice age.
Naturally, Jiangnan Base City's sudden climate shift drew attention from all sides. Every faction suspected that the drop in global temperatures had originated there.
Yet no matter how they investigated, they could not discover the true cause of Jiangnan Base City's changing climate.
That did not stop Jiangnan Base City and the Eight Satellite Cities from becoming a favorite summer retreat for wealthy people worldwide practically overnight.
This year's summer had barely begun, yet many wealthy people had already arrived in Jiangnan Base City on passenger aircraft to escape the heat, causing property prices there to soar over the past two years.
Well, once winter arrived, forget it. Time to get out fast.
Winter here felt even colder than in Kyoto Base City up north.
Bzz-
On the villa's second-floor balcony, Yun He slowly opened his eyes in his recliner.
"Planetary level six."
A full year and a half of desperate cultivation every day, and he had only just reached planetary level six. The energy required for levels seven, eight, and nine would be even more terrifying!
Just thinking about it left Yun He speechless.
He looked toward Luo Feng's home. That kid had also been cultivating diligently lately. Aside from spending time with his family, he spent every day in the gravity chamber consuming Wood Bud Crystals.
A few days earlier, both his fighter and Spiritualist cultivation had reached planetary level four.
With that comparison, Yun He felt a little better.
Actually, it wasn't impossible for Luo Feng to progress faster if he wanted to. With Babata's stockpile of Wood Bud Crystals, reaching planetary level nine right now would be no problem. It was just that the Earthling bloodline was far from impressive, so Babata wanted him to build a solid foundation for the sake of his future.
Yun He took a white crystal from his pocket and held it beneath his nose. As he sniffed it, a rich fragrance of rice filled him.
Luo Feng had given him the Wood Bud Crystals-a full hundred of them. Of course, that was pocket change compared to Babata's private stash.
Starting tomorrow, Yun He planned to use Wood Bud Crystals to supplement his cultivation.
After consuming these hundred crystals, I should be able to reach level eight, right?
"It's about time. I should hand the Golden Horned Beast cub over to Luo Feng."
Yun He mentally gauged the time. Over the past year and a half, Luo Feng should have studied quite a few of Meteorite Star's various books.
It's about time to deliver his takeout, or it'll go stale.
