Twelfth layer of Qi Refining 16 18 Reached by the time he arrives in Mobei City; subsequently verified during Falling Moon Sect’s entrance examination.
Early Foundation Establishment 20 23 Absorbs the Heaven and Earth Art from a rock wall. His spiritual energy condenses into a droplet, and his physical strength and toughness increase at least tenfold.
Middle Foundation Establishment 33 Retrospectively stated to have been reached in roughly two years after the Heaven and Earth Art increased his cultivation speed fivefold.

Peak late Golden Core 127 His cultivation is firmly at the peak of late Golden Core, but still one step short of great perfection.
Early Nascent Soul 133 150 Ancient carvings transform his technique into the Heaven and Earth Universe Art. His five-elements Golden Core shatters and becomes a Nascent Soul.

Background / History

Chen Ming comes from Earth and recognizes the world he enters as that of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality. Awakening in Mo Juren’s body, he knows that Doctor Mo’s possession scheme and dealings with Yu Zitong and Han Li threaten his survival. He uses the Lottery System’s beginner rewards to expel and destroy Yu Zitong, removes the body’s toxins, and obtains the spiritual aptitude needed to pursue a different fate 1 16 40.

Rather than reproduce Mo Juren’s treatment of his disciples, Chen Ming gives Han Li and Zhang Tie occasional cultivation guidance. He also accepts the Mo household as his family. Returning to Jiayuan City, he sets out to eliminate threats to his wives and daughters, destroys the Brothers Alliance, and offers to adopt Zhang Tie and eventually leave the Amazing Flood Dragon Society to him 3 4 5 6.

His search for resources takes him into cultivation sects. After an initial period at Spirit Beast Mountain, he leaves the Zhao State ahead of the Evil Cult Demon Sect’s invasion. Falling Moon Sect admits him despite his unusually poor seven-attribute spirit root, and his Foundation Establishment breakthrough earns him Inner Sect status on Iron Bamboo Peak. He later transfers with other Falling Moon disciples to Green Wood Peak in the Five Elements Sect 16 18 20 30.

Appearance

  • Cultivation-induced rejuvenation: After reaching the second layer of Qi Refining, he appears to be in his thirties and exceptionally handsome, reflecting Mo Juren’s youthful appearance 3.
  • Changing age descriptions: A later passage describes him as looking around forty despite the body being over eighty, while Falling Moon Sect’s examination records an age of thirty-eight 5 18.
  • Clothing: Wears blue robes, gray Daoist robes, and sect uniforms; uses ordinary gray clothing and a bamboo hat when keeping a low profile 27 39 48 62.
  • Assassin disguise: Uses an iron-black Azure Wolf Mask and night clothing during his assassination work and subsequent flight from Zhao Qian 49 50.
  • Recognizable face: A century after leaving Jiayuan City, the Zhang household recognizes him from the portrait preserved in its main hall 157.

Personality

Chen Ming considers cultivation a change in power, not a reason to abandon human relationships. He rejects the idea that immortality requires emotional detachment from family and makes the Mo household’s safety a personal priority. Gratitude is equally important to him: after Wan Yao’er saves his life, he risks returning to check on her despite their short acquaintance 4 37 74.

He is pragmatic and frequently deceptive when survival demands it. He conceals his immortal cultivation from martial opponents, prepares ambush routes, uses false identities, and retreats from stronger enemies instead of insisting on an unwinnable confrontation. His caution does not prevent calculated risks, including infiltrating hostile sects and attending a potentially dangerous meeting with Situ Hong 4 42 47 66 141.

His warmth toward allies contrasts with his ruthlessness toward enemies and assassination targets. He massacres the Brothers Alliance, beheads a contracted target, and exterminates the Azure Wind Pirate Group. Li Fengling nevertheless describes him as unserious in conversation but good-hearted and dependable 5 30 46 81.

Abilities & Skills

Lottery System

  • Receives a beginner gift pack containing the Soul-Expelling Pill, Soul-Slaying Nail, and Purifying Pill, which let him remove Yu Zitong and cleanse the body 1.
  • Obtains the Pseudo-Spirit Root Pill through a Spirit Stone-funded draw 1.
  • Uses a panel displaying cultivation, spirit-root information, condition, and energy; recharging with Spirit Stones can trigger automatic upgrades 1 8 11.
  • Cannot assume a particular reward will be available again; he does not know whether he can obtain another Pseudo-Spirit Root Pill for his family 4.

Cultivation Arts and Multiple Dantians

  • Evergreen Technique: His first immortal-cultivation method, inherited from Doctor Mo’s hidden collection 2.
  • Heaven and Earth Art: An evolved form of the Evergreen Technique that raises his cultivation speed fivefold 20 33.
  • Heaven and Earth Five Elements Art: Allows simultaneous cultivation of five elemental attributes 55.
  • Heaven and Earth Universe Art: A deeper, more complete successor received from ancient carvings; reshapes his meridians and triggers his Nascent Soul breakthrough 133.
  • Keeps martial true essence and five-elements spiritual essence in his lower dantian, while opening his middle dantian for poisonous spiritual essence. He also attempts to open his upper dantian, a process requiring delicate control 49.
  • Later maintains a five-elements Golden Core in the lower dantian and a poison Golden Core in the middle dantian, circulating independently but resonating with one another 110.

Poison Arts

  • Selects the lightning-based Thunderclap Sword Art to complement the Heaven-Shaking Staff 58.

  • Blazing Prairie: Disperses stellar power into sparks for wide-area suppression and attacks; initially requires further practice for precise control 123.
  • Star River Reversal: The third-level formula, producing descending sword light like a celestial river. By his return to Tiannan, he has mastered the canon’s first three levels 150.
  • Uses the canon to repel an ambusher wielding the Netherworld Sword Art, though he returns injured 122.

Elemental Spells and Movement

  • Fireball Technique: Uses multiple simultaneous fireballs for combat, destruction, and illumination. Poison exposure eventually gives their centers a green tinge 17 32 51.
  • Explosive Flame Technique: Produces a pale-blue fireball that he can detonate at a chosen moment; his first attack with it causes little damage to two pursuing cultivators 27.
  • Wind Blade Art and Water Ball Technique: Combines elemental spells with poisonous powder when attacking a cave 28.
  • Shrouding Smoke Steps and Skywalking Art: Used for pursuit, escape, and movement across water 5 16 18.

Alchemy and Talisman Crafting

  • Refines healing pills and antidotes before entering Void Sky Hall 56.

Formations, Concealment, and Illusion Resistance

  • Layers illusion, defensive, soundproofing, killing, and poison formations around temporary cultivation sites 49 51.
  • Develops the Five Poisons Immortal-Trapping Formation, combining five poisons with five-element interactions to trap and continuously poison enemies. It is particularly dangerous to opponents at his own level 55.
  • Completes the Lesser Celestial Cycle Star Formation around his cultivation chamber 121.
  • Conceals his aura and uses terrain, disguises, and concealment talismans to evade detection 4 63 66 141.
  • Gains strong illusion resistance from an Illusion God Pill, though the Sublime Illusion Realm can still exploit his fears and emotional attachments 58.
