Chapter 38
Indeedee's compulsory service.
Eve Liya watched Lu Li climb up from the floor with an odd look in her eyes.
When Lu Li had suddenly clutched his head and screamed, her first instinct had been to suspect he was trying to scam the Magical Beast.
But considering how nearly omnipotent the mighty Magical Beast was, Eve Liya dismissed that absurd thought.
"Was that Aromatherapy just now?" Lu Li asked curiously.
Indeedee nodded.
Indeedee had noticed something strange about this fake person: he actually knew a great deal that should not have existed in this world.
Seeing how much Lu Li knew about Pokémon, Indeedee began to hesitate.
One reason Indeedee had forcibly kept everyone in the hotel was a fondness for looking after people. Even if these people were fakes, Indeedee was still willing to care for them like pets.
The other reason was positive emotions. Indeedee fed on positive emotional energy, but this world was far too sorrowful. Indeedee had visited many places in this city, yet the settlements of fake people offered little positive emotion to absorb.
That was why Indeedee had decided to start a business, forcibly keeping every survivor who came to the hotel. In Indeedee's view, these people would become happy as long as they had food and clothing.
But after all these days, Indeedee discovered that although the people here produced more positive emotions than those elsewhere, the amount was still pitifully small, barely enough to fill Indeedee's stomach.
So Indeedee wanted to find more people to look after. But being kindhearted, Indeedee could not bear to forcibly drag people here. After all, they had their own friends and families.
Today, another group had arrived at the hotel.
That group seemed to have come looking for food. To Indeedee, these poor children who could not find food were exactly the sort who needed care forced upon them.
That was why Indeedee had made them stay and even arranged rooms for them on the sixth floor.
Yes.
After two days of hard work, Indeedee had filled every room on floors three through six.
The fact that Indeedee could learn Aromatherapy was enough to show a love of peace and a good understanding of how to care for other living creatures.
Most importantly, Indeedee's level was definitely high.
Although Indeedee was not good at fighting, in everyday life, Indeedee could do practically anything. Indeedee was probably the highest-level Pokémon near the Shopping Mall-at least, the highest-level Pokémon Lu Li had encountered so far.
"Indeedee, there are still a lot of people at our Camp who need us to go back and look after them. Could you let me take my companions home?" Lu Li pleaded sincerely.
Indeedee conjured up a drawing board and a pen with psychic powers.
(They were not created with psychic powers, but brought over from elsewhere using a move.)
Indeedee quickly drew a new picture on the board.
Once the picture was finished, Indeedee handed the board to Lu Li.
The picture roughly meant that Lu Li should bring everyone at the Camp here, and Indeedee could take good care of them all.
To be honest, Lu Li was tempted for a moment.
After all, they had to live somewhere. With Indeedee here as a safety net, life in this apocalypse would certainly be much more secure.
But Indeedee would restrict his freedom, and Indeedee was not good at fighting. What if the people from the Camp moved into the hotel and Mimikyu followed them?
One fed on positive emotions, the other on negative emotions.
These two Pokémon were unlikely to get along, even if both Mimikyu and Indeedee were fundamentally inclined toward being lawful and good.
"We can't. There's a Mimikyu at our Camp. If we came here, Mimikyu would follow us," Lu Li said, decisively bringing out his trump card.
Hearing that, Indeedee grew conflicted.
Indeedee was not good at fighting, and Mimikyu was a Ghost-type Pokémon that could appear and disappear without a trace.
If that walking disaster were brought into the hotel, forget positive emotions-the whole hotel would probably be engulfed in panic.
Seeing Indeedee hesitate, Lu Li quickly pressed his advantage. "Indeedee, you can't possibly look after too many people. Besides, our Camp isn't far from here. You can drop by whenever you have some free time. We'd be happy to have you."
Having finally met a Psychic-type Pokémon he could communicate with normally, Lu Li wanted to take this opportunity to learn more about these Pokémon's habits.
One thing was certain now: Indeedee could understand exactly what he meant. In other words, the main obstacle to their communication was on his side.
But Indeedee could draw, so pictures could serve to convey meaning.
"Yee~"
Indeedee sighed, then picked up the drawing board and began drawing again.
A short while later.
Indeedee handed the picture to Lu Li.
The picture roughly meant that Indeedee was willing to let Jun Shutong and the others go. It also indicated that Lu Li could come and stay here if he encountered danger.
Indeedee had specifically marked on the picture that this offer was for Lu Li alone.
That made it clear how wary Indeedee was of Mimikyu.
Lu Li quickly expressed his gratitude. "Thank you so much, Indeedee."
Indeedee nodded, then gestured for Lu Li to follow.
After leaving the room, Indeedee took Lu Li to the sixth floor using Teleport.
"Yee~"
Looking deeply reluctant, Indeedee pointed down the hotel corridor, signaling for Lu Li to hurry up and take the others away.
Indeedee was actually quite reluctant to part with Jun Shutong and the others, because their positive emotions were rich and abundant, far surpassing those of the other people in the hotel in both quality and quantity.
If not for the fact that Jun Shutong and the others were staying in the Shopping Mall, and Lu Li had said Indeedee could visit the Camp when free, there was no way Indeedee would have let them go.
No matter how kindhearted Indeedee was, going hungry was not an option.
Afraid Indeedee might change course, Lu Li hurried to knock on doors and call everyone out. Huang Jiafei was in the first room. That kid really had terrible luck.
He was also the only person in the Camp who had been captured by Pokémon twice. Lu Li found Jun Shutong in the last room.
When Jun Shutong opened the door and saw Lu Li, her first thought was, It's over. Lu Li's been captured too.
But she quickly realized something was off.
If Lu Li had been captured, why would that Magical Beast let him share a room with her? Everyone had been given a separate room before.
"Lu Li, did that Magical Beast capture you too?" Jun Shutong asked anxiously.
Lu Li quickly shook his head and explained, "I've already reached an understanding with that Magical Beast. Indeedee is willing to let us go back."
Lu Li chose
to conceal the fact that Indeedee was willing to take in the other people at the Camp.
After all, proposing the sacrifice plan had already damaged his reputation in the Camp. If people discovered this as well, everyone there would turn against him.
For the others, being "locked up" in the hotel by Indeedee would undoubtedly be a good thing.
But Lu Li benefited from the Camp's existence. He could not let its people move into the hotel.
Besides, Indeedee had already made it clear that there was no desire for a conflict with Mimikyu. If he handed the people from the Camp over to Indeedee now, kindness might compel Indeedee to accept them.
But what would the consequences be?
Mimikyu was at least level 30, and Indeedee was at least level 40. Even an ordinary Caterpie could cause that much destruction. The destructive power of Pokémon at such high levels was easy to imagine.
Lu Li even suspected that the shock waves from a fight between those two Pokémon would be enough to reduce the Shopping Mall to ruins.
Besides, power essentially came down to how many people you could command.
More people put a little more pressure on the Camp, but at least he did not have to go out every day and risk his life searching for food. He could simply stay in the Camp and have food ready for him.
