Team Rocket's people finally retreated.
They left very peacefully, every face dark as thunder, every jaw clenched.
They had truly arrived in high spirits and left in disappointment!
Looking over the scene, the brief but intense battle had left only a battered bridge behind. Although its deck was riddled with potholes and parts of its structure had exposed the reinforced concrete within, thankfully, it had not broken apart or collapsed.
Still, it seemed the bridge's completion date was destined to be pushed back!
Recalling all his Pokémon except Haunter and Gardevoir, Xia You took out his phone and dialed Looker's number.
Once the call connected, he briefly explained the situation.
"They weren't lying. This really was retaliation." On the other end of the line, Looker sighed. "Actually, you weren't the only target. Several of our International Police facilities were attacked, too. Even Lance and Agatha were attacked yesterday!"
Xia You hurriedly asked, "What about Sabrina and Erika?"
"Hey, hey, hey!" Looker grumbled in displeasure. "We've known each other this long, and you don't even ask how I'm doing when you call?"
"Huh? Sorry, sorry!" Xia You quickly said. "Were you attacked, then?"
"Of course not!"
"I..." Xia You felt as though a breath had caught in his chest. Rolling his eyes, he snapped, "Then why are you wasting my time? Can you be serious at a time like this?"
Naturally, they could joke like this because, as their dealings grew more frequent, they had gone from strangers to good friends.
"Haha!" Looker laughed. "Don't worry. League Gyms are in cities, where there are too many people around for assassination attempts. They're also close to police stations, so Team Rocket hasn't attacked them."
Hearing that put Xia You somewhat at ease, though he figured he had better call the women later
