Gardevoir and Jolteon rushed past Sanna on either side. Neither paid any attention to the female thief, who had no Pokémon left to use, and instead charged straight toward the device.
As Pokémon belonging to a legitimate Pokémon Trainer, they would not attack humans without an explicit command.
The seemingly unguarded device lay right before them, but just as the two Pokémon were about to reach it, the enormous waterspout moved into their path.
The waterspout had already caused irreparable damage inside the Grand Cathedral. Countless stone slabs had cracked because of it, and the walls, stone pillars, and everything else had suffered its impact to varying degrees.
The fact that the building had not collapsed yet was already a testament to its sturdiness. Presumably, as an island city, Alto Mare had designed most of its buildings with wind and earthquake resistance in mind from the outset.
"Go around it!"
At Xia You's command, Gardevoir used Teleport to get past the waterspout, while Jolteon darted around the side with its incredible speed.
But a moment later, two more streams split off from the waterspout, blocking their path again and beginning to close around them.
The two Pokémon attacked with their moves, but they faced the same problem as before: even if they destroyed the water in front of them, an endless supply of seawater kept replenishing it.
With no other choice, they retreated again.
Xia You glanced at Ash and saw that he had not managed to rescue Latios either. Thinking quickly, he called to Ash, "Let's get out of here first! If this keeps up, this place will collapse sooner or later!"
Although Ash was reluctant, he knew he could not rescue Latios on his own. He could only nod and leave the Grand Cathedral with Xia You.
