"I'm more than just an outstanding Coordinator," Harley said with a smile. "I placed extremely high in the Hoenn Region's Grand Festival!"
Harley's claim was half true and half false. He had indeed competed in the Grand Festival, but he had been eliminated in the Top 32, which hardly counted as an extremely high placing.
But his real talent lay in how habitual his lying had become. The lies rolled right off his tongue without the slightest flaw, and with his equally confident tone, Jessie and the others never doubted him.
"Oh? Then you're pretty good yourself." Jessie first gave Harley a surprised look, not expecting this man to be so capable, but then laughed heartily. "Still, you're a long way from matching me, the fairy Jessie Bian!"
"Yes, yes, of course..." Harley rubbed his hands together, looking thoroughly ingratiating. "I heard of your great name even back in Hoenn! Are you here to enter the Saffron Contest too?"
"Of course." Jessie smiled smugly. "I've never thought much of this little Saffron Contest. If I enter, first place is bound to be mine!"
An ordinary person really couldn't have managed Jessie's inexplicable confidence, but that very air, which even Jessie herself believed in, fooled Harley too. With both an entourage and an assistant, she genuinely made him think this woman was someone extraordinarily formidable!
"That really is impressive! Then allow me to congratulate you on your victory in advance!"
Under Harley's deliberate compliments and flattery, it took only a dozen or so flattering remarks for Jessie to become so pleased with herself that she completely forgot her own limitations.
