Eterna City lay slightly north of the center of the Sinnoh continent. With a population of only a few hundred thousand, it was an inland city with a very long history.
Although it was not particularly prosperous and was only medium-sized, its long history had left it with the once-famous Eterna Festival Plaza in its eastern district. Every year, when the festival came around, large numbers of residents gathered there, briefly making the place exceptionally lively.
Unfortunately, as traditions slowly faded and the older generation aged, the festival culture had inevitably declined, even though young people today enjoyed lively gatherings just as much.
Whether the city was declining, however, had little to do with Xia You and his companions.
After all, they had not come as tourists. They had only one purpose in coming here-the Eterna Gym!
As Eterna City's official Gym, the Eterna Gym had a Gym Leader named Gardenia, a female Pokémon Trainer who specialized in Grass-type Pokémon. Coincidentally, the two characters in her name referred to vegetables and seeds or planting respectively, both related to plants. Since Gardenia also specialized in battling with Grass-type Pokémon, it really was a fitting name.
