Chapter Summaries

Ash, Xia You, Yukinari, and their companions found an injured Celebi and set out for Agno Village to get it treated. Team Rocket and the Pokémon Hunter Vicious ambushed them, leaving the group surrounded as they prepared to fight.

• Ash climbed to the tree hollow, where Celebi blasted him and Yukinari away and then drove Ash back with wild-growing branches.
• Erika calmed Celebi and carried it from the hollow; Celebi soon fell asleep, and the group decided to take it to Agno Village for treatment.
• Smoke bombs engulfed the group by a stream, and Team Rocket demanded that they hand over Celebi.
• Vicious attacked Erika with mechanical claws, but Xia You pulled her out of their path and identified the hunter.
• Team Rocket joined Vicious in surrounding Xia You and the others, who prepared to defend Celebi.

Xia You and the others battled Vicious and his Dark Ball-controlled Pokémon while Misty and Brock fought the Team Rocket Trio. After the group fled with the unconscious Celebi, Vicious chose not to pursue them, saying he wanted to savor the hunt.

• Vicious sent out a powerful Shadow Tyranitar, whose Hyper Beam devastated the forest and forced Xia You's group to scatter.
• Ash, Yukinari, and Xia You joined the battle, but Shadow Tyranitar's strength and resistance to Hypnosis made it difficult to fight.
• Misty and Brock defeated the Team Rocket Trio, then helped Ash and Yukinari take down Shadow Sneasel and Shadow Scizor.
• Yukinari spotted Vicious reaching for more Dark Balls, and Xia You urged everyone to retreat so they could get Celebi treated.
• Xia You and the others escaped into the forest, while Vicious stayed behind and told the Team Rocket Trio he wanted to savor the hunt.

After Celebi recovered at the lakeside camp, it grew close to the group and learned from Eevee about life with humans. The group set out for Agno Village the next morning, but Vicious’s mechanical claws attacked Celebi again as they neared the village.

• Xia You and the others camped by a lake, where Erika treated Celebi and Xia You revealed his interest in catching it.
• Celebi woke at dinner, eagerly ate Brock’s food, and spent the evening playing with the group.
• Jolteon found Eevee asleep instead of guarding its post, woke it with electricity, and left it playing with Celebi; Eevee told Celebi that Pokémon living with humans got three meals a day and other comforts.
• The next morning, Xia You scolded Eevee, Celebi devoured Brock’s breakfast, and the group followed Noctowl toward Agno Village to avoid another ambush.
• As the group neared the village, mechanical claw arms lunged from behind trees to seize Celebi, and Pikachu cut one arm apart with Iron Tail.

Vicious captured Celebi with a Dark Ball and transformed it into Dark Celebi, which created a gigantic vegetation monster and carried him away. Xia You and the others pursued Vicious with help from Towa, Miku, and Huai Te, but Dark Celebi destroyed their airship and left them stranded at the lake where they had camped.

• Vicious captured Celebi with a Dark Ball, and Ash briefly stole the ball before Vicious recovered it and released Dark Celebi.
• Dark Celebi unleashed a powerful hurricane, gathered debris into a huge sphere, and carried Vicious and the Team Rocket Trio away from the forest.

• Dark Celebi attacked the airship with an energy wave, forcing Huai Te to land on a lake before another blast destroyed the vessel.

Xia You sent Suicune into the battle, helping Ash and Yukinari free Celebi from Vicious’s control and defeat the plant monster. The victory left Celebi gravely weakened, while Vicious’s fate remained uncertain.

• Ash and Yukinari climbed the plant monster to reach Celebi while the others fought Vicious’s Shadow Pokémon and Team Rocket’s trio.

Suicune purified the lake, and a group of Celebi restored the dying Celebi by apparently turning back its time. Vicious then seized the revived Celebi and fled, but Xia You pursued him on Dragonite and confronted him after his jetpack ran out of fuel.

• Ash asked Xia You to have Suicune purify the lake, and Suicune cleansed the dark energy from the water.
• Ash placed the unresponsive Celebi in the purified lake, but a group of Celebi appeared and restored it to life.
• Vicious emerged from the wreckage, grabbed Celebi, and escaped with his jetpack.
• Xia You chased Vicious on Dragonite, while Ash and Yukinari followed on foot with Noctowl pursuing them.
• Vicious's jetpack ran out of fuel, and Xia You landed in front of him and demanded that he release Celebi.

Vicious tried to use Celebi to escape through time, but Celebi broke free and transported Xia You, Yukinari, and Vicious to the past, leaving Ash behind. Xia You caught up with Celebi and learned it could send him back, but stopped it so he could return to Yukinari first.

• Vicious tried to ambush Xia You with a Dark Ball, but Gardevoir knocked it aside and Ash and Yukinari arrived, leaving Vicious cornered.
• Vicious attempted to control Celebi with his last Dark Ball, but Celebi erupted with time-traveling energy and carried Vicious, Xia You, and Yukinari away while Ash remained behind.

Xia You returned Yukinari to his own time, defeated the Pokémon Hunter pursuing him, and caught Celebi by persuading it to travel with him. After saying goodbye to Towa’s group, Xia You parted ways with Ash, Misty, and Brock and set off for Hoenn.

• Xia You found Yukinari, learned Vicious had escaped blind into the river, and reunited Yukinari with his own time.
• A Pokémon Hunter confronted Xia You and Yukinari, but Dragonite defeated him and destroyed his motorcycle and Poké Balls.

• Xia You and Erika arrived in Littleroot Town and traveled north toward Gumei Town to register for the Hoenn League.
• Xia You and Erika met Mays at the Gumei Ruins, where he explained that a sealed stone door might lead to a chamber holding ancient Pokémon.
• Xia You recognized the ruins from Ash's future adventure and chose not to try opening the door before he and Erika continued to Gumei Town.
• Xia You registered for the Hoenn League at the Pokémon Center, where Nurse Joy noticed his championship record.
• Xia You sent Blastoise, Venusaur, Jolteon, and Crystal Steelix to Cerise Laboratory and kept his other Pokémon with him for the Hoenn journey.

Xia You and Erika traveled into the mountains near Gumei Town, where Xia You caught a Torchic after it lost a battle against Eevee. They reached Petalburg City that evening, and Xia You planned to challenge Norman’s Gym the next morning.

• Xia You searched the exposed tide pools, encountered a Horsea and a Tentacool, and found a Feebas stranded in a shallow pool.
• Xia You explained Feebas’s evolution into Milotic to Erika, then used Torchic to weaken Feebas and caught it after it escaped two Poké Ball attempts.

• Archie challenged Xia You to a battle after the Zigzagoon he had been trying to approach left the campsite.
• Xia You’s Eevee defeated Archie’s Mudkip, and Archie introduced himself with a series of costume changes before Xia You refused to give his name.
• Xia You returned to camp, where Erika had finished dinner, and the pair left Petalburg Woods the next day after Erika caught a Seedot and a Shroomish.
• Near Rustboro City, three men in red uniforms robbed a Devon Corporation employee and ran toward Xia You with the stolen briefcase.
• Xia You tripped the thieves with Gengar’s shadowy arm, and Gengar restrained their Houndoom as Xia You recognized them as Team Magma.

Xia You rescued Devon Corporation secretary Kuroda from Team Magma, then visited the company with Erika and met President Stone. When Team Aqua stole valuable Culture Medium from the fossil revival laboratory, Xia You blocked their escape and prepared to stop them.

• Gengar defeated the three Team Magma members, and Xia You helped Kuroda recover his briefcase before handing the criminals over to Officer Jenny.
• Kuroda invited Xia You and Erika to Devon Corporation, where they met President Stone and toured its fossil revival laboratory.
• Team Aqua triggered an alarm and tried to escape through the laboratory windows with stolen Culture Medium.
• Xia You sent out Gardevoir, which used Confusion to block Team Aqua's escape, while Kuroda identified the stolen vials as essential to reviving fossil Pokémon.

Xia You confronted Team Aqua members led by Dew in an office building and stopped their attempt to escape with stolen culture fluid. After defeating them, he captured the group and secured the fluid.

• Dew ordered his Team Aqua members to attack Xia You, and they sent several Crawdaunt against Scizor.
• Scizor used X-Scissor to defeat the Crawdaunt, leaving Dew's Pelipper as the only Pokémon still standing.
• Dew tried to escape through a window on Pelipper while his subordinates prepared to release their second Pokémon.
• Gardevoir stopped Pelipper with Confusion, and Dew explained that he had recognized Xia You as the Silver Conference champion and wanted to deliver the culture fluid to his boss.

Xia You stopped Team Aqua from stealing Culture Medium from the Devon Corporation, after previously helping Stone against Team Magma. He met Stone’s son Steven, who offered him friendship and help.

• Stone thanked Xia You for stopping the Team Aqua members and protecting the Devon Corporation.
• Kuroda’s security guards arrived, and Xia You defended them from Kuroda’s anger while they tied up the intruders and recovered the Culture Medium.
• Steven arrived and Stone introduced him to Xia You as his son and a Pokémon Trainer.
• Stone and Kuroda explained the Team Magma and Team Aqua incidents to Steven, who thanked Xia You and called him a friend.

Xia You and Erika visited Devon Corporation, where he spoke with Steven about rare stones and the Ever Grande Conference. After they left, Erika learned that Celadon Gym’s repairs were complete and the Pokémon League wanted her to return and run it.

• Steven told Xia You about his interest in mysterious stones, and Xia You described the Soul Dew he had seen in the City of Water.

• After Erika received the League’s call, Xia You comforted her, and they traveled from Rustboro through Petalburg to Littleroot Town so she could sail back to Kanto.
• Xia You and Erika spent an emotional final night together, then promised to stay in touch before Erika boarded her ship the next morning.
• Xia You watched Erika’s ship depart and stood mourning her departure at the pier.

Xia You and Misty traveled toward Rustboro City and found a private Gym boasting that it had the world’s strongest Pokémon. Misty challenged its Gym Leader, Anthony, and stepped forward to battle his Pelipper.

• Misty told Xia You that Ash planned to arrive in Hoenn soon with only Pikachu.
• Xia You and Misty took a remote road toward Rustboro City and spotted a sign advertising a Gym with the world’s strongest Pokémon.
• The pair arrived at the Gym and saw a boy leaving in tears with his Pokémon.
• Anthony introduced himself as the Gym Leader and claimed that his Pelipper was the undisputed strongest Pokémon in the world.
• Misty accepted Anthony’s challenge and volunteered to battle Pelipper first.

Misty battled Anthony’s Pelipper, whose unexpected attacks defeated Starmie and Psyduck. Xia You realized Anthony was hiding other Pokémon inside Pelipper’s enormous mouth, and stepped in to take over the battle.

• Misty sent out Starmie, but Anthony’s Pelipper used Thunder Shock to defeat him.
• Misty tried to choose another Pokémon, but Psyduck came out on his own, so she sent him to battle.
• Pelipper restrained Psyduck with vines and slammed him down before he could use his psychic abilities.
• Xia You realized Anthony was hiding Pokémon inside Pelipper’s mouth and using them to surprise opponents.
• As Misty reached for a third Poké Ball, Xia You stopped her and offered to take over.
