"Typhoon Lugia is about to make landfall. Trainers, please watch for changes to your flights... We sincerely apologize for the resulting delays and ask for your patience..."

Red exclamation marks kept flashing on the airport's electronic displays. The typhoon was not hitting their location, but their destination.

Typhoons here were generally code-named after Pokémon. Names such as "Pidgey" or "Spearow" indicated a low-intensity storm with little impact, perhaps bringing nothing more than some rain.

Typhoons of that intensity had a slight impact on coastal areas and low-lying cities, and prompted some unusual Pokémon activity. Pelipper and Wingull, for instance, would ride the strong winds to glide long distances. Trainers could even see flocks of Taillow darting through the storm.

Ground-type and Bug-type Pokémon would hide in caves or human buildings. Occasionally, a huddle of Diglett could be seen trembling in a subway station.

Transportation would suffer minor disruptions, with some ferry services suspended, but large Flying-type Pokémon such as Pidgeot and Corviknight could still fly normally. They merely needed to adjust their routes.

The next level up used code names such as "Pidgeotto" and "Corvisquire." Typhoons of that intensity could send coastal Water-type Pokémon into a frenzy, making them more likely to attack ships.

Flooding would also occur in cities, where Pokémon such as Azumarill and Politoed would form rescue teams to help stranded humans and Pokémon.

Typhoons named after final evolutions such as "Pidgeot" and "Fearow" were already severe enough to require evacuations in some cities.
