Shi Niu steadily drove the carriage along a fairly long side road. Before long, they reached the level highway. There were still few people and carts on the Official Road at this hour, and Shi Niu urged the carriage faster and faster.
The three carriages behind them also kept chasing after them, but it quickly became apparent how skilled the drivers were. Those three carriages were left far behind.
Shi Niu seemed unaware of it and continued cracking the whip and spurring the horses, thoroughly enjoying the long-missed sensation. Fortunately, the attentive Qiutong noticed and stopped him. Shi Niu said sheepishly, "It's been so long since I last drove a carriage. I got carried away, I got carried away. I'll drive slower from now on."
Shi Niu slowed down, allowing the carriages behind to catch up. Elder Sister Qin inside one of them frowned and said, "Shi Niu, hurrying along is fine, but you must ensure the Villa Lord's safety. If you drive like this, wouldn't the Villa Lord be left without anyone to protect her?"
Shi Niu did not particularly like hearing that. "If we run into enemies, how could those people in the back possibly be enough? Wouldn't we still have to do the work?"
Elder Sister Qin smiled. "I knew talking to someone like you would be difficult. In this martial world, brute force alone is not enough; one must use one's brain as well. As the ancients said, 'An open spear is easy to dodge, but a hidden arrow is hard to guard against.' It is better to be careful."
Shi Niu was somewhat fearful of and respectful toward Elder Sister Qin. He said nothing more, merely controlled the carriage's speed carefully so the carriages behind would not have to chase after them so strenuously.
