"I would do my best to get you to tell me about yourself. But don't think you could overcome this easily!"
Facing Touko's piercing gaze, Cynthia flashed a fierce smile. The commanding aura radiating from Shirona suggested strength even greater than Gima's, whom Touko had defeated in the League. Sensing a fraction of Cynthia's power as Champion, Touko broke into a cold sweat.
Then they readied their Poké Balls and threw them simultaneously.
"I'm counting on you, Roserade!"
"Go! Emboar!"
Cynthia sent out Roserade, while Touko chose her ace, Emboar. Cynthia was at a type disadvantage, but both she and Touko understood that type matchups alone did not decide a battle. That was no reason for Touko to let her guard down.
"Emboar! Nitro Charge!"
Emboar charged forward wreathed in flames. Roserade had high Special Defense but low physical defense. Even the relatively weak Nitro Charge could inflict considerable damage if used properly.
"Roserade, Sludge Bomb."
Roserade fired a Sludge Bomb at Emboar's face, briefly blocking his vision. Emboar took almost no damage, but in the instant his sight was obscured, Roserade leaped over his head and assumed an attacking stance.
"Emboar! Get up!"
"Dazzling Gleam!"
The Fairy-type Dazzling Gleam pierced Emboar. With his Fire and Fighting typing, the Fairy-type move dealt neutral damage, but his low Special Defense meant it still hurt considerably.
However, the damage was less than Cynthia had expected. Emboar's Special Defense should not have been that high. The damage had probably been reduced this much by the effect of his held item.
I wonder if it's an Assault Vest.
Taking less damage would also make sense if he used Chakagi C to raise his Special Defense.
