Background / History

Sprigatito originally belonged to Lin Lange, a Shanghai University Pokémon Academy student. Lin Lange provided excellent food, supplies, and training, but made that care conditional on meeting demanding performance standards. After a defeat in an internal school tournament, she abandoned Sprigatito as “incompetent.” Sprigatito subsequently spent more than half a year living alone around the campus and its back mountain, surviving on berries and energy absorbed through Synthesis 6 42.

She met Xia Chi on his freshman orientation day, a little over two months before her introduction, when he became lost and exhausted on campus. Despite her aloofness, she guided him back to the main campus. A few days later, Xia Chi found Mankey bullying her, called the school Security Team, and took her for treatment before nursing her in his dorm. Their friendship developed into regular evening meals 6.

When Xia Chi invited her to become his Pokémon, she initially hesitated out of fear of another abandonment. His recognition of her value as a companion—and her continuing desire to battle—persuaded her to accept. They sealed the partnership by placing her paw in his hand, unlocking his system’s bond features 7.

Appearance

Sprigatito is a pale-green kitten with expressive crimson eyes. During her stray life, she was lean and slender, with stained fur and bloody facial scratches from fighting Mankey 6.

Personality

Sprigatito is proud, prickly, and independent. Abandonment makes her reluctant to accept kindness, but does not extinguish her love of battle or determination to grow stronger. She refuses to yield to the Mankey that bully her and initially tries to dismiss her injuries as insignificant 6 7.

Her affection for Xia Chi often appears beneath an aloof exterior. She accepts treatment when he threatens to go hungry himself, trains independently partly to avoid adding to his workload, and resolves to remain beside him as they pursue greater strength. Over time, her initial resistance to cuddling gives way to relaxed purring during their nightly routine 6 20 21 49.

She can be possessive and mischievous: she drives Oddish away from Xia Chi’s lap, bristles at a reporter approaching him, and deliberately toys with Misdreavus during their capture battle. Nevertheless, she admits responsibility for their dangerous Primeape encounter and sincerely apologizes to her teammate 34 37 40 41.
