Watching the dragon turtle's head emerge from the water, all the scholars on the warship's deck, however respected or learned they were, gaped like children, as though dreaming. Something this fantastical belonged only in One Thousand and One Nights.
According to their earlier survey data, Turtle Island was five kilometers long and three kilometers wide, and even carried a small mountain range on its back.
Turtle Island simply could not be a species capable of existing in Earth's biosphere. Even with the ocean's buoyancy supporting it, its weight of tens of thousands of tons would crush it to death.
"Roar!"
The dragon turtle roared, churning up wind and waves. The sea surged violently, and even the warship over a dozen nautical miles away was caught in the turmoil, rocking uncontrollably from side to side.
"Damn it! It behaved itself for the past dozen days. Why did it suddenly go berserk tonight?!"
The captain spoke through gritted teeth, then suddenly realized something. He jerked his head up and froze.
A blood-red moon hung overhead, like the eye of heaven in the vast night sky.

The other sailors and scholars aboard noticed the change in the moonlight one after another. Their hands and feet went cold, their faces pale.
After three long years, the red moon had appeared again. Something major was happening!
Turtle Island beat its enormous front flippers and changed course, swimming away from Mexico's west coast toward the center of the Pacific Ocean.
It was heading toward the Old World.
