Ch. 403Slaying a god
At Iwashimizu Hachimangu, Ninth-Dan Saitō and the chief priest discovered that Taira no Masakado had awakened and was destroying the shrine while searching for his head. As Masakado prepared to wipe them out, a gigantic purple arrow arrived, which the survivors believed was a divine intervention by Great Shining Deity Hachiman.
- Ninth-Dan Saitō told the chief priest that Uchiha Naruto had refused his offer of kyudo apprenticeship, and praised Naruto’s extraordinary skill.
- The chief priest and Ninth-Dan Saitō investigated the commotion and found the shrine’s deity statues beheaded, then encountered the headless Taira no Masakado.
- Taira no Masakado accused Great Shining Deity Hachiman of betraying him, beheaded Hachiman’s statue, and joined forces with a nue to trap the shrine attendants.
- Taira no Masakado mounted the nue and gathered power for a devastating strike against Hachiman-gu.
- A gigantic purple arrow streaked in from the northeast and burst into brilliant light above the shrine, prompting the chief priest, the other attendants, and Ninth-Dan Saitō to believe Hachiman had manifested.
