Lind had been planning to issue his own currency for a very long time. The idea had first occurred to him back when he was still a Division Commander under Rocks.
After all, as someone who had transmigrated, he knew perfectly well how unreliable Beli was. Given the means, he would naturally find a way to create a more dependable currency.
Lind had recruited plenty of financial experts early on, along with artists and printers. His banknote-printing facilities had long since been established.
All they needed was a single order from Lind, and these factories disguised as ordinary printing plants could spring into action, becoming relentless money-printing machines.
Brrrrrr.
Amid the roar of machinery, bundles of banknotes rolled off the presses in an endless stream, bound for banks and vaults across the islands of the Oran Sea.
Lind had also issued a decree well in advance, announcing that Oran Currency would soon be introduced as the Oran Empire's legal tender.
The initial exchange rate was set at one unit of Oran Currency to ten Beli, with subsequent fluctuations determined by the actual value of the two currencies.
All residents of the Oran Empire could currently exchange Beli for Oran Currency, or Oran Currency for Beli. Exchanges would be free of charge for the first month, after which a fee of one-tenth of one percent would apply.
There was no helping it. No one had any Oran Currency during that first month, so Lind waived the fee to encourage the empire's residents to exchange their Beli.
If exchanges remained free forever, banks everywhere would inevitably face much heavier workloads. It might even interfere with Lind's efforts to promote Oran Currency.
According to Lind's decree, both Oran Currency and Beli would be accepted within the Oran Empire for the next three years.
