Snape looked somewhat embarrassed, and seemed to have grown genuinely angry as well.
He waved his wand. Vast amounts of moisture formed in the air, and the temperature throughout the Common Room plunged by dozens of degrees.
Within seconds, tens of thousands of slender icicles condensed from the moisture, their sharp tips gleaming coldly under the eerie green lights. Then they all shot toward Gerald at once.
With his wand in his right hand and his left forming a hand seal, Gerald cast magic and a spell simultaneously.
"Protego!" "Water-Curtain Heavenly Splendor!"
The Shield Charm's pale blue barrier and Water-Curtain Heavenly Splendor's translucent water shield both formed spheres around him. The two layers of protection overlapped, and the icicles striking the outer water curtain sent great sprays of water flying.
Even so, the successive impacts drove Gerald back step after step. Snape's magical power output was far higher than he had expected.
The outermost Water-Curtain Heavenly Splendor soon shattered under the relentless barrage, and the Shield Charm's barrier was on the verge of collapse as well.

A streak of blue-white lightning shot skyward, blasting apart every chain-hung chandelier beneath the dome of the Slytherin Common Room.
Then an astonishing dragon's roar came from high above, deep and long, carrying a power that pierced the soul.
Then everyone saw a silver creature more than thirty meters long hovering above the Slytherin Common Room. Its body coiled and twisted, and blue-white lightning wound around its four dragon claws.
It smashed straight through the dome of the Slytherin Common Room. Rubble and chains rained down onto the already devastated floor.
"What magic is this?" a Slytherin student shrieked, backing away.
"Is that a fantastic beast? I've
