A smug smile curled Umbridge's lips. She turned and walked back toward the lectern as she said, "I don't care what relationship any of you have with Dumbledore or McGonagall. From the day I arrived at Hogwarts, you must do as I say, because I represent the highest authority in the wizarding world: the Ministry of Magic."
With his right hand hanging at his side, Edward flicked his wand lightly and said loudly, "Understood, Professor!"
"Very good."
She returned to the front. "Today's lesson is to memorize pages twenty-five through... of Defense Against the Dark Arts."
Just then, she suddenly felt something thin, slippery, and cold slithering up her back. It quickly reached her neck.
She instinctively reached to touch it. Almost at the same moment her hand made contact, a brightly colored venomous snake appeared before her eyes, its tongue flicking.
"!!"
Umbridge's hand froze against the snake's body, and fear quickly spread across her face. This was an extremely venomous species of magical snake, and its venom-filled fangs were only a few centimeters away from her.
"AAAAH!!!!"
A piercing scream burst from her mouth. Then she began jumping and flailing wildly, trying to shake off the snake. All the students present were terrified too.
Only Edward shouted righteously, "Everyone, don't just stand there! Use the spells you've learned to save Professor Umbridge! Don't be afraid, Professor! We'll protect you!"
As he spoke, he silently cast a Conjunctivitis Curse.
But everyone stared at one another, at a loss.
Cedric was the second to jump up. He turned back and said anxiously, "If anyone doesn't help, and Professor Umbridge finds out afterward, you'll definitely get detention scrubbing toilets!"
Whoosh!
At those words, nobody could stay seated.
