"Then, could you tell me what exactly happened to Professor Lockhart?" Harry asked with some curiosity.
"Hmm, that? Yes, I can." Seeing that Harry seemed interested-or rather, could finally no longer contain his curiosity-Grindelwald nodded with a smile. "He went to Egypt to excavate a pharaoh's pyramid."
"Huh?" That explanation clearly left Harry a little dumbfounded.
He had considered all sorts of possibilities, but excavating a pharaoh's pyramid had truly never occurred to him.
"But wasn't he... cursed? What does a pharaoh have to do with it? Are the curses of Egyptian pharaohs in the movies actually real?" Harry looked at Grindelwald in disbelief.
"Some are real, some aren't," Grindelwald said. "Most so-called pharaohs' curses are actually caused by harmful gases produced by piles of corpses or assorted other things in underground tombs, or infections from certain toxic fungi.
"But some are real. As one of the birthplaces of magic, Egypt has always conducted extensive research into deities. Several of its pharaohs, in particular, were extremely powerful wizards themselves, and had studied the power of deities in great depth. However..."
At this point, Grindelwald paused, a hint of hesitation appearing on his face for the first time in front of Harry. "The deities Egyptian wizards studied seem to be rather different from the ones we know."
"Hmm? What do you mean?" Harry asked, puzzled.
"You're probably not one of those... what were they called again... oh, Christians, are you? You can understand that there's more than one deity, can't you?" Grindelwald said.
Harry nodded. Of course he wasn't a Christian.
In fact, even before coming to Hogwarts, he had been interested in nothing to do with Christianity except Christmas.
His interest in Christmas was entirely because he got time off and could receive presents.
