Ch. 501The eve of the final event

Harry and Ron resisted Yuerjinho’s powerful illusions, demonstrating extraordinary soul strength and securing Hogwarts the best school award. As Hogwarts celebrated its victory, Ludo Bagman was especially pleased because the tournament’s biggest bets had been placed on the overall titles.

  • Yuerjinho’s illusion magic failed to affect Harry and barely affected Ron, astonishing the other schools’ headmasters and professors.
  • The officials recognized Harry and Ron’s exceptional soul strength as they emerged first and second from the sixth event.
  • Carlos Blanco took third place in the event, but Hogwarts had already secured the best school award.
  • Harry and Ron finished first and second in the individual standings, with Ron holding a substantial lead over Harry.
  • Hogwarts held a celebration, and guests from the other schools joined in to congratulate them.
  • Ludo Bagman celebrated the result, pleased by the large wagers placed on the best school and Magic Cup champion titles.

Ch. 502Hedge Maze

Harry experienced recurring nightmares about Peter Pettigrew, then woke on the morning of the final task to discover a vast hedge maze covering the Quidditch pitch. Harry and Ron recognized the maze as the likely setting for the task, but did not know what awaited them inside.

  • Harry continued having brief nightmares in which Peter Pettigrew appeared with shadowy figures, though he dismissed them while preparing for the final task.
  • Harry and Ron spent the days before the task with Qiu and Lavender rather than undertaking meaningful preparation.
  • Seamus woke Harry and Ron by announcing that the grounds for the final task had appeared.
  • Harry and Ron looked from the dormitory window and saw ten-meter-high green walls and mist covering nearly the entire Quidditch pitch.
  • Ron identified the enormous structure as a maze.

Ch. 503The Final Task (Part One)

The Champions gathered for the final task as the Tournament Committee revealed the tree wall and Bagman announced their scores to the assembled crowd. The chapter ended with the Champions introduced in standings order, just before the task began.

  • Harry, Ron, and the other Champions arrived early and waited by the mist-covered wall of trees.
  • At 6:45, Bagman, Umbridge, Percy, and two Tournament Committee wizards dispelled the mist, revealing the wall as spectators began entering.
  • Bagman announced that Ron was in first place and Harry was in second, drawing cheers from their supporters.
  • Bagman introduced Elizabeth Xilieikesi in third place, followed by Ryan Moning Meng and Jacob Covenas.

Ch. 504The Final Task (Part Two)

Harry entered the maze and tried to fly above its hedges, but the Tournament Committee’s spatial magic prevented him from reaching the top. He then used his Invisibility Cloak to vanish as the Champions continued into the maze.

  • Harry cautiously approached a dark corner, then noticed he could try flying over the hedge.
  • Jean Gardner transformed into a peregrine falcon, while Ryan Moning Meng, Yi Qianqian, and Harry also attempted to fly above the hedges.
  • Carlos Blanco entered the maze, its entrance disappeared, and a Viewing Screen showed the Champions to the audience.
  • Harry realized spatial magic kept the Champions from reaching the tops of the hedges, so he abandoned his attempt.
  • Harry used the Left Hand of Chaos and Calamity to draw in his Invisibility Cloak and disappear from the Viewing Screen.

Ch. 505The final event (III)

The Tournament Committee’s maze creatures challenged the champions as Bagman commentated, with Ron defeating a Boggart and Elizabeth Xilieikesi facing a Blast-Ended Skrewt. The chapter left Elizabeth defending herself from the creature while Bagman explained its origins and potential value.

  • Ron turned a giant spider Boggart into an Octopus Balloon and burst it.
  • The Tournament Committee staff told Bagman that nine Boggarts were in the maze.
  • Elizabeth Xilieikesi encountered an unfamiliar six-meter creature in the maze.
  • The Blast-Ended Skrewt spat flaming venom, and Elizabeth cast a Shield Charm nonverbally to block it.
  • Bagman identified the creature as a Blast-Ended Skrewt bred by Rubeus Hagrid and described its valuable venom.

Ch. 506The final event (IV)

Elizabeth used vines to bind and move aside a Blast-Ended Skrewt, while Jacob Covenas faced a huge two-headed dog in the maze. Corvinus bound the creature’s mouths, and the battle was still underway.

  • Elizabeth blocked the Blast-Ended Skrewt’s scorching venom after her dark magic failed to injure it.
  • Elizabeth summoned vines that bound the Blast-Ended Skrewt and pulled it into the tree wall.
  • The main Viewing Screen switched to Jacob Covenas, who faced a creature the spectators first mistook for a two-headed demon wolf.
  • A Tournament Committee member identified the creature as a two-headed dog, a crossbreed of three-headed dogs.
  • Corvinus bound the two-headed dog’s open mouths with black ropes, then raised his wand again as it struggled to break free.

Ch. 507The Final Task (5)

The champions encountered dangerous magical creatures and plants in the Hedge Maze. Jean Gardner escaped a group of Winged Demons, while Fleur Delacour freed herself from Devil’s Snare; Harry remained trapped by vines that Bagman identified as likely Heavenly Demon Vine.

  • Jean Gardner was knocked from the air and attacked by four Winged Demons in a dark section of the maze.
  • Gardner cast defensive spells and fled, and the Winged Demons soon stopped chasing her and returned to their lair.
  • Fleur Delacour was dragged into a hedge by Devil’s Snare, then cast the Fire-Making Spell without her wand and escaped with minor injuries and singed clothes.
  • Harry was caught by vines at roughly the same time as Delacour and was dragged mostly into the hedge.
  • Bagman explained that the maze’s hedges contained Devil’s Snare, Sticky Vine, and the more formidable Heavenly Demon Vine.

Ch. 508The Final Event (Part Six)

Shen Yalan ambushed Meng in the maze, but Meng revealed she had anticipated the attack and countered with a Lightning Charm. Shen Yalan survived by casting Protego Totalum and responded with dark magic.

  • Shen Yalan silently hit Meng with a Stunning Spell as Meng remained unaware of her approach.
  • Meng feigned defeat, then fired a quick Disarming Charm that Shen Yalan dodged by rolling aside.
  • Meng cast a Lightning Charm at Shen Yalan, who blocked it with Protego Totalum.
  • After the shield shattered, Shen Yalan rose and cast dark magic, astonishing the spectators.

Ch. 509The Final Event (VII)

Shen Yalan and Ryan Moning Meng battled in the maze, trading fire and ice magic while spectators judged their strength. Their clash remained even, leaving both schools surprised by Meng’s power.

  • Ryan Moning Meng’s silver Occamy Patronus made Shen Yalan dodge, giving Meng an opening to attack with seven blue fire serpents.
  • Shen Yalan raised a cage of vines to block the flames, then countered with a stream of freezing mist.
  • Meng answered with a ribbon of blue fire, and the two champions’ magic clashed evenly.
  • The Nagudinnaf students were surprised that Shen Yalan could not overpower the younger Meng, while the Ilvermorny students also watched her strength with surprise.

Ch. 510The final event (eight)

Meng used the Spirit-Driving Art to summon a fire spirit that overpowered Shen Yalan, forcing her to flee without being eliminated. The battle ended with Meng's victory, but the first elimination announcement named Nanyang Magic School's Yi Qianqian.

  • Meng's fire spirit shattered its ice shell and emerged as a towering figure wreathed in flames.
  • Li Jinglong explained to Professor McGonagall that Meng had summoned a spirit through ancient Eastern fangshu, not a magic puppet.
  • Meng's fire spirit absorbed Shen Yalan's spells and drove her into a hasty retreat, though she escaped elimination.
  • A firework announced that Nanyang Magic School's Champion, Yi Qianqian, had been eliminated, surprising Li Jinglong.

Ch. 511The final event (IX)

  • Krum summoned a giant bat-like creature from black smoke, and Lei Kaiming protected himself with Protego Totalum.
  • Krum struck Lei Kaiming’s shield with dark red lightning, shattering it and allowing the black smoke to surge inside.

Ch. 512The Final Event (10)

Harry fled a Sphinx in the maze and guessed he was nearing the center, while several other champions were eliminated. Only six champions remained as Harry continued toward the trophy.

  • Harry tried to stun a Sphinx after refusing to solve its riddle, then ran until it stopped chasing him.
  • Harry rested, then set off again after his sprint had carried him deep into the maze past several fantastic beasts.
  • Shen Yalan lost to Carlos Blanco, Meng lost to Julianne Sirtute, and Corvinus ambushed Julianne after her victory.
  • Horton ambushed Elizabeth Xilieikesi and Jean Gardner while they fought, eliminating both champions.
  • Ron guessed a Sphinx's riddle incorrectly and became the only champion eliminated by a magical creature rather than another champion.
  • Six champions remained: Harry, Fleur Delacour, Jacob Covenas, Carlos Blanco, Markov Horton, and one other champion.

Ch. 513The final event (XI)

Harry sensed Corvinus approaching inside the Maze, but Corvinus withdrew before attacking, leaving the spectators to wonder whether Harry had detected him. The chapter ended with Harry continuing through the Maze as Lei Kaiming gained the upper hand against Carlos Blanco elsewhere.

  • Harry resumed walking through the Maze, while Lei Kaiming continued to trouble Carlos Blanco with well-timed spells.

Ch. 514The graveyard

Harry and Horton reached the Triwizard cup at the same time, triggering its Portkey, but they did not arrive at the expected destination. Outside the Maze, the Tournament Committee could no longer sense the cup, and Moody demanded to know where Harry was.

  • Harry tried to stun Horton, but both Champions dodged each other’s spells and raced toward the cup.
  • Horton cast a speed-enhancing spell while Harry ran ahead, and they reached for the cup at the same moment.
  • The cup transported Harry and Horton away; Harry saw Horton’s invisibility break and mouthed an insult at him.
  • Black and Lupin noticed that Harry and Horton had not appeared outside the Maze after several seconds.
  • Bagman revealed that the Tournament Committee could no longer sense the cup, and Moody urgently asked where Potter was.

Ch. 515Gravestone

Harry saw Peter Pettigrew attack Horton before Weir Hallen intervened, only for Allen Dismask to kill Weir and Horton with green flames. Dismask collected Weir’s remains and spoke cordially with the sinister presence hidden in Peter’s arms.

  • Peter Pettigrew cast repeated Killing Curses at Horton, and Weir Hallen blocked one with Ultimate Death.
  • Harry recognized Peter Pettigrew, while Weir demanded that Peter hand over the thing he carried.
  • A voice from Peter’s arms spoke, and green flames engulfed Weir Hallen until only his skeleton remained.
  • Allen Dismask emerged, said he had prepared the flames, and added Weir’s magical skeleton to his collection.
  • Dismask burned Horton into a lesser skeleton, then thanked the presence in Peter’s arms for its cooperation.

Ch. 516Bone of the Father

Harry was immobilized and carried by Peter to a cemetery, where he realized the snake and the bundle Peter held were speaking Parseltongue about Tom. Unable to use his wand, Harry considered his left-hand power but hesitated, and Peter began preparing a huge cauldron.

  • Harry floated behind Peter and saw a huge, brightly colored snake emerge from the grass.
  • Harry heard the snake and Peter's bundle speak Parseltongue, and recognized the bundle's name as possibly Tom Riddle.
  • Harry considered using the power in his left hand but held back because Dismask might be able to counter it.
  • Peter moved Harry behind a gravestone and summoned an enormous stone cauldron.
  • Peter filled the cauldron with water, conjured firewood beneath it, and lit the fire.

Ch. 517Black Ginny's worries

Harry watched Peter perform an ancient ritual to resurrect his master, while Dismask helped him replace his severed hand. Peter then cut Harry and added his blood to the cauldron, which turned dazzling white, before Dismask contributed a lock of hair.

  • Harry recognized Peter’s actions as a likely evil ritual and wondered whether its promised rebirth was possible.
  • Peter cut off his damaged right hand and dropped it into the cauldron as part of the ritual.
  • Dismask used animal remains to create and attach a replacement hand for Peter, who thanked him but felt afraid.
  • Peter cut Harry’s face and added a drop of his blood to the cauldron, turning its liquid dazzling white.
  • Dismask cut off a lock of his hair and tossed it into the cauldron.

Ch. 518The resurrected Dark Lord

Voldemort returned to life in the cauldron and thanked Dismask for improving the ritual. He examined Peter’s Dark Mark, leaving Harry to wonder whether Karkaroff had also been one of Voldemort’s followers.

  • Voldemort emerged from the cauldron, and Harry recognized him despite his changed appearance.
  • Peter dressed Voldemort in a black robe while Voldemort kept watching Harry.

  • Voldemort’s inspection made Peter’s Dark Mark turn blood-red.

Ch. 519The Death Eaters

Voldemort summoned his followers to the graveyard and told Harry about his parents and his revenge against his father. After the Death Eaters gathered, Voldemort confronted them over their apparent guilt and lack of persecution.

  • Voldemort taunted Harry and described how his Muggle father abandoned his witch mother, who died giving birth to him.
  • Two more followers arrived and knelt as Voldemort pointed out the Death Eaters hiding in the woods.
  • The Death Eaters gathered around Voldemort, knelt, and pledged their devotion after thirteen years apart.
  • Voldemort sensed guilt among the Death Eaters and challenged those who had remained healthy and unpersecuted.

Ch. 520Better off without a nose

Voldemort confronted Lucius Malfoy about his past actions and questioned his loyalty while Harry watched. Voldemort interrupted Harry’s attempted Apparition and left their confrontation for later.

  • Voldemort accused Lucius Malfoy of causing trouble at the Quidditch World Cup and failing to seek him out, but spared him after Lucius pleaded loyalty.
  • Harry suspected Voldemort had spared Lucius because Lucius once held the Diary Horcrux, which Harry had already destroyed.
  • Voldemort promised rewards to the Lestranges, said the Dementors and giants would join him, and questioned Macnair and Goyle.
  • Voldemort stopped Harry’s Apparition and told him they would settle their business later, then taunted him about his father.
  • Harry retorted that he would be like Voldemort’s dad, and Voldemort replied that this meant Harry would be killed by him.
