Ch. 61Draco followed his heart

Harry and Ron stopped Draco from running to the castle after he discovered Hagrid’s dragon, Norbert. Draco’s hostility gave way to fascination when he saw the dragon, revealing that he was an avid dragon enthusiast.

  • Harry used his wrist-mounted wand gadget to cast the Leg-Locker Curse on Draco, causing him to fall in the grass.
  • Ron taunted the restrained Draco while Harry and the others surrounded him.
  • Draco began to sneer at Hagrid’s dragon, but fell silent when he saw Norbert.
  • Draco stared at Norbert with intense fascination because he had long wanted a dragon of his own, though Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa had refused to let him raise one.

Ch. 62The plan

Harry and his friends decided that Norbert had grown too large to keep hidden and arranged to send him to the Dragon Sanctuary where Ron’s brother worked. Draco and Hagrid were reluctant to part with him, but Draco could only spend the remaining days caring for the dragon.

  • Draco began visiting Hagrid’s Hut almost every evening with food and drink, supposedly to check that his oath remained in force, while he secretly doted on Norbert.
  • Ron complained that Draco had stopped picking on him, and Neville warned that Norbert would soon be too large to hide.
  • Harry persuaded Hagrid that keeping Norbert could cause trouble for Dumbledore, and Hagrid reluctantly agreed to send the dragon away.
  • Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville decided Norbert would go to the Dragon Sanctuary where Ron’s brother worked, despite Draco’s objections.
  • Draco helped Hagrid care for Norbert using the Malfoy family’s dragon-raising knowledge, and his devotion to the dragon earned Hagrid’s goodwill.

Ch. 63An unexpected turn after the plan

Harry, Ron, Neville, and Hermione secretly carried Hagrid’s baby dragon toward the Astronomy Tower, using an Invisibility Cloak that grew when Harry wished it larger. Hermione then used a levitation charm to lift the heavy crate.

  • Harry and Ron prepared to move the baby dragon, and Neville and Hermione joined them for the nighttime trip.
  • Hagrid gave them the dragon in a tough, fireproof crate and tearfully watched them carry it away.
  • The four friends struggled to fit beneath the Invisibility Cloak with the crate, but Harry made the cloak grow larger.
  • They entered the Castle and struggled up the Astronomy Tower stairs with the heavy crate.
  • Hermione cast Wingardium Leviosa on the crate to make it easier to carry.

Ch. 64Punishment

Harry, Hermione, Neville, and Ron faced the fallout from losing Gryffindor 150 points after the Astronomy Tower incident, then heard Professor Quirrell sobbing that he could not do something again. When Ron suspected Snape was pursuing the Philosopher’s Stone, Hermione insisted they avoid more trouble and concentrate on exams.

  • Ron apologized to Harry, Hermione, and Neville for staying behind, and they reassured him that he had made the right choice.
  • Gryffindor students shunned Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville after learning they had lost 150 points, while Harry also noticed Padma growing distant.
  • Harry spent the next days revising with his friends and, on his way back from the Library, heard Professor Quirrell pleading and sobbing in an empty classroom.
  • Ron concluded that Snape had learned how to get past Quirrell’s magic, but Hermione pointed out that Fluffy still guarded the way.
  • Hermione urged the group to tell Dumbledore or focus on exams rather than snoop for evidence, and Harry agreed to end the discussion.

Ch. 65The Forbidden Forest (Part One)

Hagrid led Harry, Neville, and Draco into the Forbidden Forest as punishment, where he explained that they needed to find a badly injured unicorn. The group followed a trail of unicorn blood into the dangerous forest.

  • Draco denied breaking his oath to keep Harry's dragon secret, and Hagrid confirmed that the oath had ended when Norbert left Hogwarts.
  • Hagrid told Draco he had to accept Hogwarts' punishment or go home, so Draco entered the Forbidden Forest with Harry and Neville.
  • Hagrid warned the boys about the dangers in the forest and gave each of them fireworks.
  • Hagrid showed Harry, Neville, and Draco unicorn blood and said a unicorn had been badly injured, after he had found another dead one the previous week.
  • Harry asked what could hurt a unicorn, recalling that unicorns were powerful magical creatures with strong defenses.

Ch. 66The Forbidden Forest (Part Two)

Harry and Draco followed the Unicorn’s blood trail into the Forbidden Forest and found the Unicorn dead. A hooded figure began drinking its blood, and Harry sent up Hagrid’s warning firework as Draco and Fang fled in panic.

  • Hagrid warned Harry and Draco to stay on the path and set off fireworks if they found anything, then the pair continued into the forest.
  • Harry remembered that Hagrid’s assurances might not apply to the creature that had come from outside the forest, but kept his concern to himself.
  • Harry and Draco followed increasingly frequent traces of Unicorn blood to a clearing, where they found the Unicorn’s corpse.
  • A hooded figure emerged from the bushes and drank from the Unicorn’s wound.
  • Harry fired a warning rocket, while Draco and Fang bolted; Fang’s leash caught Draco’s legs and sent him crashing to the ground.

Ch. 67The Forbidden Forest (Part Two)

Harry and Draco encountered Firenze and other centaurs after a creature fled the clearing, and learned that someone had been hunting unicorns. The centaurs escorted them toward Hagrid, while Firenze left Harry to consider what unicorn blood could do.

  • Firenze recognized Harry as a Potter and warned him that the Forbidden Forest was dangerous.
  • Harry threatened Draco for insulting Hagrid, and Bane arrived with a group of centaurs.
  • Firenze insisted on taking Harry and Draco to Hagrid, and Bane reluctantly agreed to accompany him.
  • Firenze hinted that the creature Harry had seen might be connected to unicorn blood.
  • Draco explained that drinking unicorn blood could prolong life but cursed the drinker with a fate worse than death.

Ch. 68Bad news

Harry feared Snape would steal the Philosopher’s Stone to revive Voldemort, but nothing happened while he and his friends waited anxiously and prepared for final exams. After the exams, Harry’s confidence rose, though his scar began hurting constantly and Occlumency only eased the pain temporarily.

  • Harry told Ron, Hermione, and Neville that Snape might use the Philosopher’s Stone to resurrect Voldemort, and Hermione tried to reassure him by invoking Dumbledore and the uncertainty of the centaurs’ prophecy.
  • Harry spent the next few days on edge, but the Three-Headed Dog’s snores convinced him that Snape had not passed the forbidden corridor.
  • Harry, Neville, and Ron fell behind on Hermione’s revision plan and feared they would fail their final exams.
  • Harry found most of the exams easier than expected, while Hermione lamented that a capitalization mistake might cost her full marks in History of Magic.
  • After the exams, Harry noticed that his forehead scar had been hurting constantly, though maintaining Occlumency eased the pain.

Ch. 69The Foursome on the Offensive (Part One)

Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville entered the passage beneath the trapdoor after finding Fluffy asleep beside an enchanted harp. They landed on Devil’s Snare, which began binding them as Neville urged everyone to relax.

  • Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville reached the open door to Fluffy’s room and found the dog asleep to the sound of a self-playing harp.
  • Harry realized Snape had already gone down the trapdoor, and Ron opened it and jumped in first.
  • Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville followed Ron down the deep, curving passage and landed on something soft.
  • The plant beneath them revealed itself as Devil’s Snare and began tightening its vines around them.
  • Neville told everyone to relax because struggling would make Devil’s Snare tighten, and Hermione recognized the plant.

Ch. 70The foursome advances (part two)

Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Neville faced a wizard’s chess challenge that Ron won by sacrificing his knight, though he injured his ankle escaping the board. Harry and Hermione continued toward the Philosopher’s Stone and found a defeated mountain troll and Snape’s potions-and-logic challenge.

  • Hermione took a rook’s place, Neville a bishop’s, Harry the queen’s, and Ron mounted a knight so the chess game could begin.
  • Ron outmaneuvered the opposing pieces while avoiding moves that would endanger Harry, Hermione, or Neville.
  • Ron leaped clear when the enemy queen struck his knight, but he twisted his ankle on broken chess pieces as Harry checkmated the opponent.
  • Neville stayed behind to care for Ron and urged Harry and Hermione to continue before Snape could reach the Philosopher’s Stone.
  • Harry and Hermione found a mountain troll already defeated, then encountered Snape’s potions challenge, which also contained a logic puzzle.

Ch. 71First Encounter with Voldemort

Harry’s duel with Quirrell ended in Harry being disarmed and losing his right arm to a dark spell. Quirrell floated him before the Mirror of Erised and discovered that Harry was using Occlumency before ordering him to stop.

  • Harry attacked Quirrell, but Quirrell dodged his spells and disarmed him.
  • Harry tried to stun Quirrell, who shattered the spell with a black blade and severed Harry’s right arm.
  • Quirrell stopped Harry’s bleeding and floated him in front of the Mirror of Erised, demanding to know what he saw.
  • Harry’s pain and Occlumency kept the Mirror from revealing anything, and Quirrell recognized that Harry was using Occlumency.
  • Quirrell ordered Harry to stop using Occlumency and cast a torture spell on him.

Ch. 72A conversation with Dumbledore

Harry woke in the Hogwarts Hospital Wing with his arm restored and asked Dumbledore what had happened after he passed out. Dumbledore told him the Philosopher’s Stone was safe and Quirrell was dead, but had not yet explained what happened to the Stone.

  • Harry woke from a dream of a young woman and man, then discovered his severed arm had been restored.
  • Dumbledore soothed Harry’s agitation and confirmed that Harry was awake in the Hospital Wing.
  • Harry asked about Quirrell, Voldemort, and the Philosopher’s Stone after remembering their confrontation.
  • Dumbledore told Harry that he had protected the Philosopher’s Stone and that admirers had sent him gifts.
  • Dumbledore said Quirrell was dead and Voldemort had fled, then began to explain what had happened to the Philosopher’s Stone.

Ch. 73Draco thought they were very noisy

After recovering from his confrontation with Quirrell, Harry learned more about Snape’s hatred of his father and received an album of his parents’ photographs from Hagrid. He joined his friends at the leaving feast, where Parvati Patil sat beside him.

  • Dumbledore told Harry that his father had been Snape’s sworn enemy and had once saved Snape’s life, deepening Harry’s dislike of Snape.
  • Hagrid gave Harry a photo album of his parents and explained that he had gathered many of the pictures from their former classmates.
  • Harry noticed several men who appeared frequently in the photographs but could not ask Hagrid who they were before Hagrid left.
  • Madam Pomfrey confirmed Harry had recovered and allowed him to attend the leaving feast.
  • Harry learned Gryffindor had lost the Quidditch Cup final to Hufflepuff and expected Slytherin to win the House Cup again.
  • Harry joined Ron, Hermione, and Neville at the Great Hall feast, and Parvati Patil squeezed in beside him.

Ch. 74The end of term

Harry, Ron, Neville, and Hermione finished the school year, celebrated Gryffindor winning the House Cup, and learned their exam results. As the students prepared to leave Hogwarts, Harry explained why he had to stay with his relatives until early August, and Parvati invited him to visit her home.

  • Harry and Ron earned better exam results than they expected, Hermione came first in most subjects, and Neville topped Herbology.
  • Ron took Harry, Neville, and Hermione to the Library to search for books about Magic Puppets, but they found nothing useful.
  • The students received notices forbidding them from using magic at home during the holidays, frustrating Harry and Fred or George.
  • Harry told Parvati that he had no holiday plans and had to stay with a blood relative until early August to maintain his mother's Protective Magic.
  • Parvati invited Harry to visit her home and see magic unlike what they had at Hogwarts.

Ch. 75The Twins' plan

On the morning of their departure from Hogwarts, Fred and George approached Harry about his vault and proposed working with him. The chapter ended as they began to explain their plan, which Harry suspected was an excuse to borrow money.

  • Fred and George quietly asked Harry whether he had a vault of his own, and Harry nodded.
  • Harry reflected on the Potter Family’s history, wealth, and efforts to leave the ranks of pure-blood families.
  • Harry recalled that his vault held hundreds of thousands of Galleons and that Dumbledore and the Ministry of Magic managed his other holdings.
  • Fred and George proposed working with Harry, and Harry suspected they wanted to borrow money.
  • Fred and George ignored Harry’s doubtful expression and quietly told him their plan.

Ch. 76Harry's money-making plan

At the Dursley home, Harry considered ways to make money after reflecting on his loans to Hogwarts students and the Twins’ business proposal. He ruled out selling magical potions in the Muggle world and settled on exploring Muggle machinery to produce potions for wizards.

  • Harry reviewed the small loans he had made to Hogwarts students and the two hundred Galleons he had lent the Twins.
  • Harry considered whether the Twins’ joke products could compete with Zonkos or be sold to them through patents.
  • Harry abandoned his plan to sell magical potions in the Muggle world because of his limited knowledge, legal restrictions, and currency problems.
  • Harry came up with the idea of using Muggle technology to manufacture potions on an assembly line and sell them in the Wizard World.

Ch. 77The God Who Must Not Be Looked At

Vincent Crabbe told his parents that Hogwarts students believed Dumbledore had destroyed the Philosopher’s Stone, prompting Kebbins and Mrs. Crabbe to look for another way to achieve their urgent goal. Meanwhile, Harry entertained Dudley with exaggerated stories about his Hogwarts adventures, until Uncle Vernon delivered a file Harry had requested.

  • Vincent Crabbe told Kebbins and Mrs. Crabbe that the Philosopher’s Stone might have been destroyed and repeated the confused rumors he had heard at school.
  • Kebbins Crabbe cursed Dumbledore and discussed with Mrs. Crabbe finding another way, since they had little time and Vincent was not capable of helping them.
  • Harry told Dudley about Hogwarts and embellished his stories when his real experiences failed to impress his cousin.
  • Uncle Vernon handed Harry a file about equipment discarded during production-line upgrades.

Ch. 78Lamb

Harry woke after collapsing in the street and learned that Mrs. Figg had been watching over him for Dumbledore. He could not remember the mysterious black figure he thought he had seen, and Mrs. Figg left after he declined to contact Dumbledore.

  • Harry regained consciousness with Mrs. Figg beside him and learned he had collapsed and twitched in the street.
  • Mrs. Figg said she had seen Harry blur and become difficult to notice, and suspected a Confundus Charm had been cast around him.
  • Mrs. Figg revealed that Dumbledore had asked her to live nearby and watch over Harry.
  • Harry recalled buying an ice cream cone but found his memories of a vague black figure and the events before his collapse hazy.
  • Mrs. Figg offered to contact Dumbledore, but Harry declined, so she left without helping him home.

Ch. 79Bestowal

Harry encountered the Black Man inside his mental world and learned that the Little Monster was a soul fragment belonging to someone who had sought the Black Goat’s power. The Black Man claimed he had come out of curiosity, then raised a hand and lifted Harry’s immobile Soul Projection.

  • Harry remembered that he had collapsed after trying to use Magic Perception on the Black Man.
  • The Black Man entered Harry’s mental world, read his thoughts, and said he could not see through Harry’s memories.
  • The Black Man examined the Little Monster and identified it as the soul fragment of someone who had coveted the Black Goat’s power.
  • The Black Man called humans lambs and said he found Harry’s situation interesting.
  • The Black Man raised his hand, causing Harry’s Soul Projection to float upward as Harry lost the ability to move.

Ch. 80The money-making plan in progress

Harry and the Weasley Twins developed plans to turn retired Muggle machinery into a magical production line, but they faced problems securing money and keeping the machines powered. Harry also remained unsure what had changed in his left hand, and the trio had no clear solution for operating the equipment without violating Ministry rules.

  • Harry spent two weeks hoping the Black Man would return while remaining afraid of him, and he could not determine what had changed in his left hand.
  • Harry told Fred and George about using Muggle machinery for magical production, studied Uncle Vernon's retired equipment plans, and sent the Twins two modification proposals.
  • Harry, Fred, and George agreed that they needed money to buy the machinery and a way to supply it with continuous magical power.
  • Fred and George believed they could modify the machinery, but they could not keep it running and could not ask their father, Mr. Arthur Weasley, for help because his Ministry work covered the relevant regulations.
  • Harry realized that solving the magical machinery problem involved alchemy, but Hogwarts had no alchemy teacher and Dumbledore had declined the title of Master or Grandmaster.
