The enormous alien warship kept destroying the surrounding buildings.

Hulk tore off one of the warship's fins, then drove it straight into the alien vessel's body.

The God of Thunder raised his hammer. Vast amounts of lightning gathered in the sky and struck down through the fin, blasting into the enormous alien warship.

Rumble!

The enormous alien warship lost all power and plummeted toward the ground.

Boom!

The massive alien warship crashed into the ground, crushing a building beneath it.

Farther away, more warships raced through the sky.

"You've got to be kidding!"

Thor muttered in frustration, but a moment later, Hulk punched him and sent him flying.

Then Hulk leaped out of the wreckage and bounded onto a tall building.

The Chitauri's weapons might not have posed much of a threat to Hulk, but they still wore him down.

All that intense exertion consumed enormous amounts of his energy.

Yet he never stopped, continuing to destroy the Chitauri.

On the ground, Black Widow was fighting a squad of Chitauri. These war machines knew only how to fight. They felt neither pain nor fear.

But they were also unskilled in hand-to-hand combat, and even their aim was poor.

With a pistol in each hand, Black Widow wiped out an entire squad.

She even fought several Chitauri who closed in on her in hand-to-hand combat, though she had suffered injuries herself.

Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, and she held a weapon she had taken from the Chitauri.

Meanwhile, Captain America rescued several civilians in a nearby neighborhood.

Captain America hurled his shield, knocking a Chitauri away, then lunged forward and struck it. As the shield flew back, he caught it and smashed it into the Chitauri's throat, crushing it.

A golden streak flashed across the sky as Tony Stark, piloting his Iron Man Armor, blew up several more aircraft.

"Sir, your remaining power is at fifty percent!"

"I know, JARVIS!"

Stark replied casually.

Still, he had to be careful to conserve power when using his weapons.

After all, there was no telling when this battle would end. If he ran out of power, he would be a sitting duck.

Using his aerial mobility, he led the Chitauri through blind spots and took them out. Their mechanical controls made it difficult for them to turn quickly.

But the Chitauri were no fools. Once they realized they could not catch Tony Stark, they gave up trying to chase him down.

Atop a tall building, Hawkeye kept firing arrows, each equipped with a different special function.

Almost every shot hit its mark.

Each arrow could take down a Chitauri aircraft, but quite a few Chitauri had spotted him and begun climbing the building.

Although every member of the Avengers was doing everything they could, the Chitauri's numbers did not dwindle. There were still far too many of them.

High above, the enormous Portal continued to disgorge a powerful army.

The Avengers' stamina was steadily draining.

Fighting like this clearly addressed only the symptoms, not the cause. Unless they closed the Portal, the Chitauri would keep coming without end.

Yet even knowing that, they could not find time to close the Portal while so many Chitauri kept harassing them.

Worse still, the device generating the Portal was powered by the Tesseract, making the Portal impossible to destroy.

Just then...

On a street near Stark Tower, several figures stepped out of a ring of light.

They were Kamar-Taj and the others who had come to provide support.

Their duties were to provide assistance and treat the wounded.

Although Kamar-Taj was a Master of the Mystic Arts, he was already old and had suffered injuries on the battlefield in his younger years. Teaching students was still manageable, but fighting was more than he could handle.

He had come to help this time only because the fighting on the front lines had become so difficult.

But...

"Master Kamar-Taj? This doesn't seem to be inside the Mirror Dimension the sorcerers are maintaining."

One of the sorcerers frowned.

"I can see that. This is New York!"

Watching the Chitauri fly overhead, Kamar-Taj gave a wry smile.

It had been far too long since he had taken part in a battle of this scale. He had actually teleported straight from Kamar-Taj into New York.

He had clearly intended to teleport into the New York Sanctum.

At present, only a Master of the Mystic Arts could enter a Mirror Dimension of such enormous scale.

The others could only enter and leave through the New York Sanctum.

Unfortunately, he had made a mistake this time.

Luckily, they were not at the center of the fighting.

"It's all right. Prepare to fight. The New York Sanctum isn't far from here. We'll push through!"

Akamidal had experienced war before, after all, so this situation did not make him panic.

Although he said that, the sorcerers behind him began to panic.

Just because Kamar-Taj could handle this did not mean they could.

Not everyone was good at fighting.

Their support team was not suited to combat.

They had received training, but they had virtually no actual combat experience.

Hearing Kamar-Taj's words, they all grew nervous.

"Master Kamar-Taj, we don't know how to fight!"

"That's right, Master Kamar-Taj!"

"We have no other choice now. We just have to push through!"

Kamar-Taj felt helpless.

Their only option was to push through. He did not want to fail again.

Although the sorcerers were extremely nervous, they knew this might be their only option, so they could only nod in agreement.

By then, quite a few Chitauri had noticed them. The streets were practically deserted.

The appearance of this little group stood out far too much.

Kamar-Taj also realized that the Chitauri had spotted them. His expression turned grave, and he said solemnly, "Prepare to fight!"

As he spoke, a shield appeared in his hand.

Seeing this, the sorcerers behind him knew they had no other choice and hurriedly conjured Magic Shields of their own.

But they were terribly nervous and completely at a loss.

As they looked at the Chitauri around them, they began to tremble.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The air whistled as laser blasts came streaking toward them.

Kamar-Taj blocked again and again, stopping the lasers, but there were simply too many Chitauri.

Within moments, Kamar-Taj was already gasping for breath.

As for the other sorcerers, they could barely protect themselves. He could not count on them.

"I'll hold them off! Get to the Sanctum!"

Kamar-Taj shouted.

"Master Kamar-Taj, but..."

One of the sorcerers spoke worriedly, but Kamar-Taj cut him off before he could finish.

"No buts! Go!"

Master Kamar-Taj's tone brooked no argument. His expression remained grave as he watched the Chitauri draw closer.

Just then, a figure descended from the sky.

A flaming longsword radiated an aura of destruction.

Vishanti Holy Sword!
