Ding! Magic Talent Fragment for Magic Shield detected. Fuse it?
As the system notification sounded, Wang Yang saw a fragment fall from Kamar-Taj.
"Fuse it!"
Wang Yang felt his understanding of Magic Shield deepen considerably.
At first, he had thought the system could only detect general Talent Fragments for magic. It seemed that magical talent was the foundation of everything, and each individual spell required its own talent as well.
It was like someone who could run fast but struggled with hurdles.
Some people could play basketball but were poor at dribbling.
That was even more true of magic. Every spell required talent.
Wang Yang now understood how the system worked.
Seeing that Wang Yang remained silent, Kamar-Taj assumed his words had sunk in.
He nodded, his tone softening. "The foundations you build at the beginning are crucial to your path in magic. We have you learn magical lines so you can gain control over your mental power!"
"Your mental power determines what spells you will be able to cast in the future!"
As Kamar-Taj spoke, the Magic Shield he had conjured gradually broke apart and vanished.
Although this apprentice's arrogance had annoyed him, he had no intention of holding anything back.
After all, he, too, had once been eager to learn magic as quickly as possible. Only now did he understand just how important the fundamentals were.
Reaching too far and being a little overconfident were common faults among young people.
Even though Theodore had recommended Wang Yang, he still advised against rushing when learning magic. Only steady progress could produce a powerful sorcerer.
"I know you want to learn more powerful spells, but until you have completely mastered magical lines, I won't teach you any other powerful magic!"
Kamar-Taj delivered those final words firmly. He stroked his beard, his expression more resolute than ever.
Wang Yang looked at Kamar-Taj with admiration written all over his face.
This was a teacher who truly had his apprentices' best interests at heart.
But since he had a system that could absorb magical talent, he naturally did not want to waste it.
"But Master Kamar-Taj, I've already mastered Magic Shield!"
Wang Yang spoke quietly.
"You've already mastered Magic Light Line?"
Kamar-Taj sounded surprised.
Kamar-Taj frowned slightly. Magic Shield was genuinely difficult for an apprentice, so he had simply assumed Wang Yang meant Magic Light Line when he said Magic Shield.
"No, Magic Shield!"
Wang Yang corrected him.
"What? Magic Shield?"
Kamar-Taj frowned in disbelief. The fastest anyone had ever mastered Magic Shield was half a month, yet how long had this apprentice been here?
He had entered Kamar-Taj the day before yesterday, started practicing yesterday, and could already cast Magic Shield today?
That was simply impossible.
"What did you say?"
Kamar-Taj stared at Wang Yang, wide-eyed and dumbfounded.
"Master, I said I've already mastered Magic Shield!"
"Show me!"
Kamar-Taj's voice was trembling now. It was simply too incredible.
Without the slightest hesitation, Wang Yang began casting.
After giving a slight bow, Wang Yang swept his hands through the air, and a golden line of light appeared before him.
As it spun, countless runes emerged, forming a golden shield a moment later.
Watching this, Kamar actually felt that this Magic Shield was approaching the quality of his own.
What kind of prodigy was this apprentice?
Kamar-Taj was, after all, a veteran sorcerer with considerable seniority at Kamar-Taj.
Although he looked only in his sixties, he was actually close to ninety.
He had spent over forty years teaching apprentices and sending sorcerers to the Sanctum. He had devoted more than half his life to teaching all kinds of students, and even several of the masters had once studied under him.
Yet he had never seen an apprentice learn Magic Shield in a single day.
Although Magic Shield was only one of the most basic spells.
It was by no means simple.
It required precise control of magical power, as well as a connection to cosmic energy. Besides Magic Light Line, various runes were needed to form a Magic Shield.
A mistake in even one part of that process would cause the Magic Shield to fail.
That was why most people needed time to learn Magic Shield-anywhere from half a month to several years.
Moreover, even successfully conjured Magic Shields varied in strength.
Their strength depended on the caster's magical power, mental power, and the cosmic energy they could draw upon.
Yet the Magic Shield Wang Yang had conjured was not weak at all. It was even comparable to one cast by a sorcerer who had practiced it for over a year.
It even had something of the feel of his own Magic Shield.
He had never seen a genius like this in his entire life.
Now he understood why Theodore had recommended Wang Yang to him.
But he had no experience teaching a genius like this.
Wang Yang dismissed his Magic Shield and looked at Kamar-Taj, feeling uneasy. Although he had absorbed Kamar-Taj's talent for Magic Shield, his own shield clearly was not powerful enough yet.
Seeing Kamar-Taj remain silent only made him more nervous.
"There's no problem. You've mastered it well!"
Kamar-Taj tried his best to remain calm. After all, he wanted a genius like this to develop properly. What if too much praise made him arrogant?
Still, praise had to be given where it was due!
"Your Magic Shield is much stronger than those of ordinary apprentice sorcerers!"
"More importantly, your shield actually has a certain spark of life!"
That spark was what Kamar-Taj valued most. Most sorcerers cast these shields by following the prescribed steps, without the lively adaptability needed to change them.
Yet Wang Yang's shield possessed a trace of that quality, which also meant it had great potential.
After only one day of practice, Wang Yang had not only mastered Magic Shield but had also imbued it with a spark of life.
There was only one way to describe this young man from the East: a true genius.
Kamar-Taj clenched his hands behind his back, his gaze burning as he looked at Wang Yang.
Outwardly, however, he remained composed.
"Although you've mastered Magic Shield, you must understand that magic isn't merely a destructive force. It is also the key to exploring the mysteries of the world."
Kamar-Taj spoke calmly.
"Thank you for your guidance, Master!"
Wang Yang nodded, committing all of Kamar-Taj's teachings to memory.
Kamar-Taj was very pleased with Wang Yang's response. After a pause, he continued, "Although you've mastered Magic Shield, you mustn't become arrogant. You may be progressing faster than the other apprentices in your group, but here at Kamar-Taj, your talent is merely average. It isn't something to grow conceited about. You must work hard, or others may well overtake you."
