"So pure-blood families address one another by their full names, do they? Mr. Lucius Malfoy."
Following Lucius's example, Karn said his full name, then patted Hermione's bushy hair and continued speaking to Lucius.
"Dragon blood pastries don't seem to be on sale much lately. My goddaughter used to enjoy them, but unfortunately, we can't buy them anymore. Mr. Malfoy, do you know what's going on?"
Hermione froze for a moment, but cleverly played along with Karn. "Yes, Mr. Malfoy, I really like dragon blood pastries."
After saying that, Hermione remembered what dragon blood pastries were. Phil had brought her some once, but she hadn't been the only one to spit them out. Hermione had also seen a pained expression on her godfather Karn's face after he ate them.
Only a freak would like that stuff.
Lucius took a deep breath. A large part of the Malfoy family's business involved fire dragon materials, but Karn's actions had made that business impossible, cutting the family's income by a considerable amount.
This was a major reason he had attacked Karn in the Daily Prophet. Lucius had even tried lobbying the Ministry of Magic, and he wasn't alone. Quite a few potion-making families across Europe were lobbying the Ministry of Magic.
But the Romania Dragon Sanctuary had a Trade Contract with Karn and wouldn't terminate it lightly.
"Pure-blood families don't fall so easily, Mr. Pent."
After saying this, Lucius called Draco over, pushed through the crowd of onlookers, and headed outside.
Karn shook his head. If pure-blood families didn't place so much importance on bloodlines, there could have been room for cooperation between them. By pooling the money and influence of just three or four pure-blood families, monopolizing several kinds of magical items would have been effortless.
And profit was the greatest driving force
