Nick Fury trusted Natasha unconditionally.
If she said she could get nothing out of him, then she certainly couldn't.
Natasha suddenly said, "Although he's mentally unstable right now, there's something else we could try."
"What?" Nick Fury asked.
Natasha smiled. "We could let him try Room One."
Nick Fury frowned. "Are you sure?"
"I think it's worth a try."
"All right. Take him to Room One."
"Understood."
[Quest: Pass the Church's assessment!]
"An assessment?"
Mark looked thoughtful. "Looks like they've noticed my potential and want to invite me to join the Church."
Without joining the Church, he probably wouldn't be able to officially accept quests.
Yeah, that had to be it.
"All right, I accept," he told the vice president.
Nick Fury waved a hand expressionlessly. "Then let's begin!"
"Follow me," Natasha said.
"Okay."
Soon, Mark followed Banana into a spacious room.
There wasn't much equipment in the room, only a massive magic circle shimmering faintly on the floor.
At Banana's signal, he walked into the center of the magic circle.
Buzzz...
In an instant, the magic circle began to glow.
An invisible pressure descended over him. Mark's body sank as he felt its weight.
An assessment for Beginner Demon Hunters?
I could handle this.
Room One was a containment chamber S.H.I.E.L.D. had built specifically for superpowered individuals and mutants.
To date, no one had ever escaped it through their own power.
But in the observation room next door, Nick Fury and Natasha watched Spider-Man inside, their expressions growing increasingly grim.
"That's our latest superpower suppression collar. He actually forced his way out of its restraints!"
Natasha stared at the data on the display before her, sweat beginning to bead on her forehead.
"What exactly is his ability? Why can't we analyze it at all?"
"Nick, I'm requesting permission to activate every test."
"Granted."
As soon as Nick Fury spoke, terrifying electrical currents shot through Room One, and the gravitational pressure intensified.
At once, the magic circle blazed with dazzling light, and Mark felt his entire body begin to go numb.
"Testing my willpower?"
Mark bent slightly, then forced himself upright.
The test for Beginner Demon Hunters was far too weak!
"Motherfucker!"
Nick Fury's face was filled with shock.
He was certain that even Dr. Banner, after transforming, couldn't easily withstand such a terrifying electrical assault.
Especially not under gravitational suppression.
Yet this guy was holding out so easily?
"Nick, he's about to break out of Room One."
"I see it. Get the second plan ready, now."
"It's too late..."
The instant Natasha cried out, Mark had already broken free of his restraints and reached the door.
Crack, crack, crack...
In a heartbeat, his not particularly muscular body swelled, unleashing terrifying power.
Demon Hunter Holy Light Fist!
Boom!!
With a thunderous crash, a warped fist imprint appeared in the metal door made from special materials.
His fist hadn't glowed at all.
"Huh? Why's this wooden door so tough?"
Mark looked around. "Hey, I've already passed the assessment. Aren't you going to let me out?"
When no one answered, he simply kicked the wooden door down.
Boom!
With the wooden door kicked open, Mark strolled out of the room.
"Hey, can I accept quests now?" he asked the group of holy-armored Demon Hunters outside.
At that moment, the agents had their weapons trained on Mark, their gun-wielding hands trembling violently.
They had never seen anyone so terrifying.
Just as they were about to buckle under that terrifying pressure, Nick Fury finally appeared.
He clenched his fists and took a deep breath.
"You passed the assessment. You can accept quests now." He began playing along with Mark.
Based on that single punch alone, he believed Spider-Man's strength already rivaled Hulk's and Carol Danvers's.
That meant his plans might need a slight adjustment.
Meanwhile, Mark received his rewards.
[You passed the assessment and received Beginner Holy Light Badge x1!] [You received gold coins: 100] [Your overall strength +1, overall speed +1, overall defense +1, spirit +1, stamina +50, health +50!] [You received skill points +3] [You received the talent: Holy Light] [Holy Light: Magic skills deal 10% increased magic damage]
Mark was delighted by one surprise after another.
Skill points!
Time to spend them!
[Skill: Quick Movement upgraded!] [Skill: Jumping upgraded!] [Skill: Demon-Hunting Dart upgraded!]
Upgrading a level-one skill required only one skill point.
Upgrading a level-two skill required two skill points.
Since the skills that came with the Demon Hunter Set couldn't be upgraded.
He chose to upgrade Bruce's finishing move, while upgrading his own escape skills.
The Marvel Universe was so dangerous that running faster meant living longer.
[Demon Hunter: Mark] [Rank: Beginner] [Talent: Holy Light] [Attributes: Overall strength 4 (+2), overall speed 4 (+2), overall defense 4 (), spirit 2, stamina 100 (+100), health 100 (+100), (Magic defense +2)] [Skills: Quick Movement (level 2), Jumping (level 2), (Demon Hunter Holy Light Fist level 1)] [Equipment: Beginner Demon Hunter Set.] [Demon Hound: Bruce (Elite)]
Mark checked his attributes and found that he was still a Beginner Demon Hunter.
Then he checked Bruce's attributes, guessing that a single overall attribute had to reach ten points before he could advance to Intermediate Demon Hunter.
"Excellent. Vice president, I'd like to accept a quest," he told Nick Fury.
Nick Fury thought for a moment, then looked at Natasha.
Natasha shrugged. "Don't look at me. You're the one who
assigns me all my missions."
Nick Fury pressed a hand to his forehead helplessly. "All right, I need to plan this out."
"What? I have to wait for the quests to refresh? Even Demon Hunters have to compete this hard?"
Mark looked disappointed. "Fine, give me the 100 gold coins first." He held out his hand.
Nick Fury: "!!!!"
Where was he supposed to get gold coins?!
"Natasha, give it to him," he said through gritted teeth.
"Here."
Natasha took out a banknote and handed it to Mark, then told Nick Fury, "You owe me."
Nick Fury: "..."
He'd lost out today.
Meanwhile, Mark worked out how much time had passed.
"It's about time. I need to log out. See you tomorrow."
With that, his head abruptly drooped.
Everyone was stunned.
"He's logged out?" Nick Fury asked.
Natasha nodded. "Yes, but don't worry. He'll leave in a little while."
Nick Fury looked thoughtful. "Follow him."
"I think putting a tracker on him would be more appropriate."
Natasha explained, "I've tried. No one can keep up with him."
Nick Fury considered it, but still rejected the suggestion.
He had lucid moments. If he woke up and discovered the tracker, no one here could withstand his fury.
Natasha thought that made a lot of sense.
She stared at Spider-Man's mask. "Shall we?"
"Shall we?"
They exchanged a glance and reached for the mask in unison.
But strangely, even after logging out and losing consciousness, Spider-Man could still dodge their hands.
No matter how fast they moved, neither could keep up with Spider-Man.
In the end, Natasha could only watch helplessly as Spider-Man left.
Then she tapped the Virtual Computer and entered some information.
"What are you doing?" Nick Fury asked curiously.
Without looking up, Natasha said, "This should be another of Spider-Man's superpowers. I suggest naming it...
Hmm, Spider-Sense."
