Lynn was speechless at the idea of a Black woman lording over him as his slave master.
"...Was the American Civil War fought for nothing? How did a Black chick end up being my slave master?"
Amanda Waller's mouth twitched. She had heard that Agent Lynn was a loose cannon, but dealing with him in person was still a little hard to stomach.
"The superheroes recently formed the Justice League. We received intelligence that Batman is secretly drawing up plans to deal with Superman."
She got straight to the point.
"If a fight breaks out between them, it could threaten the safety of the United States.
To prepare for that possibility, I need your help putting together the Suicide Squad."
Lynn laughed on the spot at Amanda Waller's request.
Help your government put together the Suicide Squad, then take on Batman and Superman? Do I look like I've got nothing better to do?
Besides, prison was full of talent. Amanda Waller could put the Suicide Squad together herself. As a player, he would have to be bored out of his mind to get involved.
"Sorry, I refuse. I hate this kind of mission."
[Main quest: Form the Bat Gang] [Quest description: As an IRS agent, you've been asked by your boss's boss, Amanda Waller, to help form the Suicide Squad. But you can secretly turn the Suicide Squad into the Bat Gang~] [Quest reward: Unlock NPC recruitment] [Note: Once, S.H.I.E.L.D. went by Serpent S.H.I.E.L.D.; now, the Suicide Squad goes by the Bat Gang~]
Lynn: "..."
What expression am I supposed to make here? Wang Jingze's famous eat-my-words face?
Amanda Waller knew this would not be easy, so she tried to persuade him.
"Don't worry about how dangerous it is. We'll provide support in personnel, funding, and equipment..."
"Relax, leave this mission to me. Wire a hundred million bucks to my account first. Let's see what you've got."
Amanda Waller: "..."
The scene cut back.
Neon lights cast mottled red and blue halos that swam like fish across the damp floor.
Cheap alcohol mingled with cigar smoke, permeating the air of the cramped bar.
At the bar, several gang members slumped on greasy stools, looking utterly dejected.
"My luck's been absolute shit lately. That lunatic Batman was like a ghost. He broke three of my ribs!"
A burly man with a full beard slammed his hand on the bar. Bandages covered his abdomen, which still throbbed with pain.
"I didn't steal a single cent, and the medical bills cleaned me out. Now I can't even afford meth!"
Everyone around him nodded in agreement.
"Tell me about it. Ever since Batman joined the Justice League, he's gone nuts. He camps beside dumpsters at three in the morning. How are we supposed to do business?"
"We were already broke, and now it's even worse. At this rate, we'll end up collecting Batarangs to sell for scrap."
Amid the sighs, a bright, unhinged voice suddenly rang out.
"Hey, guys! Stop looking like your moms just died!"
Everyone turned toward the voice and saw a woman standing on the edge of the bar.
Her smooth, pale skin gleamed coldly beneath the neon lights, and her striking pigtails drew every eye.
The left was pure azure, the right a blazing red, as though a shattered rainbow had been woven into her hair.
"Gold shines wherever you put it," Harley said.
In a corner, Lynn took a sip of his Ice and Fire.
The burn of whiskey and the chill of mint exploded in his throat. The prickling burst of bubbles made him narrow his eyes.
Hearing Harley's words, he looked at the gang members, shook his head, and sighed.
"Too bad this lot's just scrap iron nobody wants."
Most of the gang members present nodded, agreeing that he had a point.
Then someone recognized the woman on the bar and asked with a grin,
"Harley Quinn, why are you here alone? Where's Joker? Aren't you pulling off something big with your Puddin'?"
"Holy shit!"
At those words, Harley instantly bristled like a startled kitty.
"I broke up with that bastard ages ago!"
She wore a loose red-and-black jacket over a white camisole that hugged her full curves, which quivered slightly as she spoke.
Below it were tiny denim shorts with deliberately ragged hems, while fishnets wrapped her long, pale thighs.
Harley clenched her small, pale fists, her expression deadly serious.
"I'm going solo. I'm gonna pull off something huge and show everyone that Harley Quinn isn't anybody's sidekick.
Batman, Joker, all of you can get the hell out of my way. Sooner or later, this city's gonna be mine!"
A Black thug in a floral shirt gave her a mocking grin and scoffed.
"Oh, come on, Harley Quinn. Did Joker dump you, and now you're looking for us to go down with you?"
"Shit! I dumped him!"
Harley furiously flipped him off.
Ever since she had seen Joker making eyes at Batman during a bank robbery, she had decided to cut ties with him.
Whenever she had tried to go on a date with Joker and do the things adults loved doing, he had always made excuses about his kidneys being weak or not feeling up to it.
Only later had she realized that Joker was a fucking gay guy with a thing for Batman!
No wonder he had never touched her all this time. He had only used her as a girlfriend for appearances.
"You dumped him?"
A scrawny man in a green outfit and green hood approached, sharp eyes peering out beneath the hood.
He looked Harley up and down, his tone accusing.
"Looks more like Joker got bored of playing with you and dumped you. Anyway, anyone want to solve a riddle? There's a prize if you get it right."
Harley snapped, "Fuck! Riddler, you're a **, you rotten-ass piece of shit, you fucking **..."
Holding his glass, Lynn sauntered over to Riddler.
"How about we switch things up? You solve my riddle."
Riddler froze, then looked annoyed.
"Why should I solve your riddle? Who the hell do you think you are..."
Lynn pulled out a Franklin and slapped it hard against Riddler's
face.
"Ten thousand dollars for each one you get right."
Riddler fell silent for a moment, looking from Lynn to the dollars pressed against his face.
Just when everyone thought he was about to blow up,
"Go on, what's the riddle?" Riddler pocketed the cash and said with a perfectly straight face, "By the way, if I solve a few more, will you pay me extra?"
Lynn: "..."
Why are these Gotham villains so ridiculous?
He shook his head, then asked,
"A sunflower follows the sun during the day. What does it do at night?"
A confident smile immediately spread across Riddler's face, and he pushed up a nonexistent pair of glasses.
"That's far too easy. Plants photosynthesize during the day, so at night, naturally..."
He abruptly stopped halfway through.
No, this is a riddle. The answer can't possibly be that easy.
With that thought, Riddler raised his head and looked at the other man.
The man before him wore a wool coat on top, a pair of garish beach shorts below, and slippers on his feet.
At the sight of that outfit, the corners of Riddler's mouth twitched.
Since when did Gotham have a villain whose fashion sense was even more bizarre than mine?
Such a bizarre outfit, yet such a simple riddle...
A trap. It's definitely a trap!
Riddler's brain raced. He considered himself Gotham's smartest villain. How could a riddle like this possibly stump him?
Soon, a gleam of wisdom lit his eyes, and he gave his answer.
"The answer is..."
