Background / History
Transmigration and enslavement
Before transmigrating, Liu Qian was a college student playing Shyvana in League of Legends. He entered the body of a thirteen-year-old blacksmith’s son; the opening chapter takes place on his ninth day in that world. The boy’s home had been destroyed by Dothraki raiders three months earlier, and he had passed through several slave markets before Gerion Lannister purchased him in Volantis for the voyage to Valyria 1 30.
The original boy’s parents had died young, and he had worked as a village blacksmith’s apprentice. Liu Qian later concealed gaps in his local knowledge by telling Marwyn that he had traveled with western merchant caravans since childhood; this was an invented explanation, not his actual background 32.
Survival in Valyria
Discovering that magical creatures could supply dragon spirit changed Liu Qian’s view of the expedition: Valyria became a possible source of strength rather than merely a death sentence. During the first monster attack, he seized Lennard’s sword and relied on his enhanced physique to survive. Gerion subsequently ordered him killed for taking the weapon, but the arrival of the Purple-Winged Beast interrupted the confrontation and allowed him to escape 1 3 5 6.
In the Withered Woods, Liu Qian rescued Janice from Scaleclaws Monsters. Her touch-based telepathy overcame their language barrier, and she introduced him to Ghost Grass, a direct source of magic power. He later defeated the pursuing Monster Bird in dragon form and helped Janice’s sister, Jelena, defend soldiers transporting Ghost Grass 7 8 11 12.
Tyria and evacuation
Liu Qian accompanied the sisters to Tyria despite warnings that its ruler, the Blood Warlock Osarion, exploited outsiders. Trapped in Osarion’s tower, he used a window escape and concealed transformation to ambush the warlock’s Chimera. He pursued it underground, interrupted its evolution beside a mysterious black stone, and killed it on the tower roof 13 16 17.
He then fought the fallen Emperor Aurion and destroyed the Scaleclaws Army attacking Tyria. When Jelena’s overuse of magical weapons accelerated her transformation into a monster, he offered Dragonblood Pact as a cure. Both sisters accepted eternal service and a life-bond to him, becoming his first Flame Knights 19 20 21.
During preparations to leave, Liu Qian recovered nine Dragon Egg fossils, the mysterious black stone, and Bright-Roar, House Lannister’s lost ancestral sword. He ordered the survivors aboard sixteen repaired ships and departed Tyria 23 25.
The Smoking Sea and Volantis
Monsters attacked Liu Qian over the Smoking Sea. He used fog, evasive maneuvers, and deliberately provoked collisions to make the attackers injure one another, but the Sphinx inflicted grave wounds. Dragon Spirit Guardians recovered him from the sea after he reverted to human form 28 29.
On waking, he found that his bloodline had reached 22.3% purity. With immediate survival secured, he turned toward world conquest, choosing the Stepstones as a base near Westeros. His first stop was Volantis, where his fleet replaced damaged vessels and replenished supplies while he visited the slave market with Janice. There he also met Marwyn, hoping to recruit the magic-studying archmaester as an adviser 30 31 32.
Establishing Torturer’s Deep
Near the Stepstones, Jorah Mormont’s fleeing passenger ship rammed Liu Qian’s fleet during a pirate attack. Liu Qian defeated Jorah, imprisoned him and Lynesse Hightower, and captured the pirate leader Rollo Uhoris. Rollo’s information led him to attack Crab Claw’s stronghold at Torturer’s Deep 33 34 35.
After taking the stronghold, Liu Qian accepted Rollo’s allegiance and gave him command of five hundred pirates. He coerced Jorah into serving as a paid knight and training the pirates, while Jelena oversaw fortifications. He also revived four Dragon Eggs and ordered them guarded beneath a sea-cave window 38 41 43.
His campaign continued against Kago’s Cleftjaw Island forces. After repelling a boarding attack, Liu Qian approved Jorah’s plan to feint at the main harbor and strike a vulnerable shipyard. Salt Widow Mara then ambushed his fleet during the assault. The latest supplied chapter ends as Liu Qian fires the Dragonbone Bow at her; the shot’s outcome is not shown 46 47 49.
Appearance
Liu Qian has black hair, black eyes, and Eastern features that distinguish him from Tyria’s silver- and gold-haired inhabitants. His initially frail body develops extraordinary strength, and he is later described as lean and muscular 3 12 14.
- Human form: A youthful, thirteen-year-old appearance; wears fine silk clothing during his visit to Volantis 30 31 32.
- Dragon form: Golden scales, golden slit pupils, broad wings, powerful claws, and a barbed tail 11 12 19 28.
- Dragon blood: Golden, visible when his scales crack in battle and when he seals the Dragonblood Pact 12 21.
Personality
Liu Qian is cautious and survival-driven. In Valyria, he watches the mist for threats, plans escape routes, and initially weighs rescuing Janice against the risk that she might be connected to the monsters. His decision to help her combines sympathy with practical motives: information about the ruins and an opportunity to gain dragon spirit 2 3 7.
He is capable of ruthlessness and coercion. Gerion’s treatment of slaves and guards makes him resolve to kill the Lannister if they meet again. Later, he keeps Lynesse captive specifically to prevent Jorah’s escape and uses her welfare to compel Jorah’s service 6 35 41.
His dealings with trusted followers are warmer. He asks Janice not to address him as “master,” praises her courage after Teres takes her hostage, and agrees to join her combat lessons. He also clears Rollo of suspected betrayal once satisfied that the pirate was not responsible for the ambush 8 30 38.
Once free of Valyria, his ambition shifts from survival to conquest. Nevertheless, he treats magic shortages, fleet costs, military training, and defensive geography as constraints that must be solved rather than relying exclusively on his dragon form 30 40 43.
Abilities & Skills
Dragon Bloodline and Magic Absorption
His system converts dragon spirit into permanent bloodline growth while tracking his available magic power 1 30.
- Can absorb dragon spirit from creatures killed by others; personally landing the killing blow is unnecessary 1 4 12.
- Dragon spirit is not guaranteed: neither the yellow-scaled monster nor Aurion yields any 7 20.
- Replenishes magic from ambient energy and magical objects; his evolved panel also lists living beings as a source 1 30.
- Drains Ghost Grass directly, causing it to wither, and extracts 5,000 magic power from Aurion’s damaged sword and armor 8 20.
- Ambient recovery is slow outside Valyria because the world is at a magical ebb 24 37.
- While unconscious, his magic instinctively repairs lethal internal and skeletal injuries, consuming most of his reserves 30.
True Dragon Physique and True Dragon Descent
True Dragon Physique increases his strength with bloodline purity. True Dragon Descent transforms him into a flying golden dragon 3 30.
- Enhanced strength also operates in human form, allowing him to drive armored monsters backward with sword blows 3.
- His dragon scales withstand many of the Chimera’s attacks with only superficial marks 17.
- At 22.3% purity, transformation produces a 67-meter dragon, costs 1,000 magic power to activate, and consumes 1 magic power per second to maintain 30.
- Exhausting his magic forces him back into human form 12.
- Transformation destroys his clothing 12 20.
Dragonfire Breath
Liu Qian breathes destructive fire in either form. Its size and range increase as his bloodline develops 1 30.
| Form | Initial Fireball Diameter / Range | At 22.3% Purity | Magic Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | 1 meter / 5 meters 1 | 3 meters / 7 meters 30 | 1 point per second 1 30 |
| Dragon | 5 meters / 25 meters 1 | 15 meters / 92 meters 30 | 5 points per second 1 30 |
- Incinerates Scaleclaws and larger magical creatures 7 12 17.
- Its force can throw enemies backward as well as burn them 7.
- Used tactically to obscure an enemy’s vision and disrupt the Sphinx’s targeting 29.
Wildfire and Fire Wielder
Wildfire surrounds Liu Qian with golden flames, while Fire Wielder improves his affinity for and immunity to fire 1 12.
- In human form, Wildfire creates meter-thick flame armor that discourages monsters from approaching; it costs 2 magic power per second 3 12.
- In dragon form, it creates a burning domain within a five-meter radius, costing 10 magic power per second 17.
- The domain continually burns nearby enemies and can hinder their movement 17.
- His evolved Fire Wielder description states that fire immunity consumes no magic power 30.
Dragonblood Pact
Dragonblood Pact reshapes willing humans into absolutely loyal Flame Knights, granting them dragon blood and binding their lives to Liu Qian’s 21.
- Purges the Valyrian Blood Magic curse, restoring Jelena and Janice’s bodies 21.
- Requires willing agreement and costs 1,000 magic power per use 21.
- If Liu Qian dies, his Flame Knights die with him 21.
- The knights gain their own magic reserves and can use Valyrian magical equipment safely unless those reserves are completely exhausted 22.
- Flame Knights resurrect the dead as Dragon Spirit Guardians; Liu Qian commands this army through the sisters rather than performing the resurrection himself 21 22 47.
Dragon-rider Bloodline
Unlocked after the Smoking Sea battles, this skill offers Liu Qian a path to revive dragons and establish a hereditary dragon-riding line 30.
- Uses concentrated golden dragon blood and magic to awaken Dragon Egg fossils 42.
- Awakening an egg requires 70,000 magic power 42.
- Four eggs—pale purple, silvery white, blood red, and black-and-red—are revived, but no hatching is documented in the supplied chapters 42 43.
Swordsmanship and Battlefield Tactics
Liu Qian initially fights with brute force and little technique. After requesting instruction from Jelena, he begins integrating her sword techniques with his superior strength and speed 3 30 34.
- His duel with Jorah improves his control, but Jorah’s experience repeatedly exploits gaps caused by Liu Qian’s rapidly increased strength 34.
- Channels magic into a runic Valyrian steel sword to ignite its blade, destroy incoming arrows, and release a flaming wave against hidden archers 37.
- Uses concealment, aerial maneuvering, and enemy interference against stronger or more numerous monsters 16 28 29.
- Delegates naval operations to Rollo, army training to Jorah, and fortification work to Jelena 38 41 43.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Lennard’s steel longsword — Taken from a distracted guard during the first monster battle; his initial weapon in Valyria 3.
