"Finally..."
Mo Si panted, her chest rising and falling.
She was exhausted, but delighted too.
She had finally obtained the Ultimate Evolution she had waited so long for!
"Boss!"
Just then, Agumon's voice reached her ears.
The punch Mo Si had thrown when she surpassed her limits had unleashed a burst of Digisoul that sent Marcus Damon flying out of the ring. Agumon had gone over to help him up.
"Healing Light!"
Mo Si came back to her senses, raised both hands, and released a rainbow glow.
This time, the rainbow light did not fly toward Marcus Damon. Instead, it illuminated the entire room, healing everyone bathed in its radiance, including herself.
"Is it over?"
Seeing Angewomon finally heal herself after refusing to do so throughout the fight, Thomas H. Norstein knew the battle had finally come to an end.
"I'll leave the rest to you."
Mo Si waved a hand, left those words behind, and walked out of the gymnasium without looking back, returning to the dorm room DATS had arranged for her.
She closed the door and walked into the bathroom, unbuckling the two belts around her waist.
She removed her mask, ribbons, clothes, and boots. Apart from the eight wings on her back, she looked no different from a human woman.
"I'm so pretty~"
After briefly admiring herself, she turned on the faucet beside the bathtub and let it fill with warm water.
She first used the shower to rinse the sweat from her hair and skin. Once the tub was nearly full, she lay down in it.
Soaking in the warm water with her long legs propped up felt wonderfully relaxing.
"Mmm~"
Mo Si relaxed completely, feeling so refreshed that she could not help letting out a contented hum.
"How did it go?"
Angewomon's voice sounded in her mind.
Mo Si looked at the newly appeared [Ultimate Evolution] on the panel, opened its details, and said, "There's good news and bad news."
Angewomon considered this. "A pleasant surprise, but risks too... What's the bad news?"
"The bad news is that there's a very high chance of evolution failure-90%," Mo Si said.
Ultimate Evolution was part of a Digimon's normal evolution, somewhat different from fallen evolution or mutation evolution.
She had not expected the Ultimate Evolution she unlocked through Digisoul to carry a possibility of failure.
Was it because she and Angewomon were two separate minds sharing one body?
Perhaps her jumble of mental states affected the outcome of evolution. Or perhaps, as a background Angewomon, Angewomon lacked the potential for Ultimate Evolution that the main cast's Angewomon possessed...
"Actually, turning into Sukamon or Scumon doesn't really count as failure," Angewomon said. "The Digital World needs decomposers like them to break down junk data. They're actually very important to the Digital World."
Yes, important to the Digital World.
Given Angewomon's personality, she would not complain even if she really evolved into Sukamon.
But Mo Si did not see it that way. Something meaningful to the Digital World was not necessarily meaningful to her.
To her, becoming Sukamon or Scumon meant evolution failure.
Besides... this time was different.
"Failure this time doesn't mean turning into Sukamon or Scumon," Mo Si said.
"Then what would we become?" Angewomon asked.
"Nothing," Mo Si said.
"Nothing?" Angewomon was puzzled.
"It means our data would collapse completely, leaving nothing behind," Mo Si explained.
The earlier fallen evolution and mutation evolution had carried a high chance of turning them into the likes of Sukamon or Scumon. As Angewomon had said, from another perspective-the Digital World's perspective-it did not really count as evolution failure.
After all, Sukamon and Scumon were useful to the Digital World.
But becoming "nothing" was evolution failure no matter how one looked at it.
"Apocalymon..." Mo Si murmured.
"What?" Angewomon was still dwelling on what becoming nothing meant. Hearing Mo Si mention an unfamiliar name, she paused. "Is Apocalymon a Digimon we can evolve into?"
Although this was her first time hearing the name, she had a vague sense of foreboding.
Mo Si shook her head. "No, Apocalymon isn't one of our possibilities. It's an amalgamation of the despair, sorrow, and other resentments produced by Digimon that disappeared during evolution."
The moment she saw that failing Ultimate Evolution would turn them into nothing, she had thought of Apocalymon, the final boss of Digimon Adventure.
Hearing the term "amalgamation of resentments," Angewomon felt that even LadyDevimon seemed adorable by comparison. She said anxiously, "That sounds like a terrifying being. Mo Si, let's not evolve into that."
"Right," Mo Si said with a smile. "Even if we really fail at Ultimate Evolution, we'll only become nourishment for Apocalymon, not Apocalymon itself."
She remembered that Apocalymon seemed to transcend the category of Digimon. It really was not something an ordinary Digimon could evolve into.
That applied to the Apocalymon in Adventure. Perhaps other Digital Worlds had Apocalymon that fell within the category of Digimon.
As she thought, Mo Si said, "But we won't fail. We'll do what we did before and use Digisoul to simulate evolution. If the result is 'nothing,' we'll skip it and simulate evolution again."
Angewomon breathed a sigh of relief.
She had nearly forgotten about that.
Then she asked, "Is that all the bad news?"
"That's all," Mo Si answered.
"Then what's the good news?"
"The good news is this..."
[Lovely Angemon: 4%] [Goldramon: 3%] [Ophanimon: 2%] [Venusmon: 1%]
There were actually four possible paths for a successful Ultimate Evolution!
Mo Si could not help feeling a surge of delighted surprise.
The first was Lovely Angemon-
Despite having "Angemon" in the name, Lovely Angemon was actually a warrior-type Ultimate Digimon. Of course, Lovely Angemon was indeed an angel as well, and a magic warrior skilled in close combat at that.
Perhaps Lovely Angemon had appeared among her possible Ultimate Evolutions because Mo Si had grasped the Digisoul that surpassed her limits through close combat in the boxing ring.
Next came Goldramon and Ophanimon-
These two were Angewomon's classic Ultimate Evolution paths.
Goldramon's probability had reached 3%, most likely because absorbing Dragon Slayer Magic Power had added some dragon factors to Mo Si's body.
As for Ophanimon's 2% probability, that was probably because Mo Si had accepted Yggdrasil's will-in other words, God's will.
Without Dragon Slayer Magic Power and God's will, the chances of evolving into Goldramon or Ophanimon would probably have been only 1% each.
The last was Venusmon-
This one was somewhat unexpected.
Venusmon... apart from peerless beauty, there seemed to be little worth mentioning. In terms of combat ability, Venusmon could not compare to the other three at all.
The model for Venusmon's data was Aphrodite from Greek mythology. Aside from appearance, however, Venusmon had little in common with this goddess of love and beauty.
Mo Si could hardly believe she had the possibility of evolving into Venusmon. But considering the personality of the Angewomon she possessed, it made sense.
This possible evolution path was probably mainly thanks to Angewomon.
"Next, it's the same as before. 'Card pulls'..."
Mo Si paused at that point.
Pulling cards for Ultimate forms-Ultimate card pulls, for short-would inevitably consume Ultimate-level Digisoul.
In that case, taking the various factors into account, she probably would not be able to manage ten pulls a day anymore.
Mo Si told Angewomon what she was considering.
Angewomon analyzed it. "To preserve our ability to fight, we shouldn't do more than one Ultimate card pull a day. If we're only doing ordinary pulls, we can still do ten a day."
Ten?
Hah, now that I can pull cards for Ultimate forms, who's going to bother pulling cards for the previous stage?
With that thought, Mo Si decided to focus on Ultimate card pulls from now on.
Once she had collected all her possible Ultimate forms, she would consider the possibilities for the previous stage.
Mm, that's settled!
But I've used up quite a lot today. I'll rest first and start pulling cards tomorrow.
