When Zhao Si came to, he was lying on a cliff, covered in a thin layer of snow. His damaged fingertips had returned to normal.
"What happened?" Zhao Si abruptly sat up.
He had no way of measuring the passage of time and did not know whether time in that world matched time in the Lands Between.
"Tibia..." Zhao Si had remembered that name before losing consciousness. "Could that Land of the Dead be called Tibia? But why did the Erdtree pull me back?"
He was not blaming the Erdtree for saving him. He simply could not understand why it had saved him.
"Maybe it's just the Tarnished's resurrection mechanism." That was the only explanation Zhao Si could think of.
The Two Fingers' Tarnished were registered with the Erdtree. If they died accidentally while carrying out a mission, it could bring them back to continue fulfilling their purpose.
In other words, a Tarnished with a mission would have trouble even dying. If that mission was too burdensome, doing this could easily crush someone. No wonder so many Tarnished were mentally ill. They had all been driven mad.
Thinking of it that way, it actually made quite a bit of sense.
