The three landed on the wall. Zhao Si took out his little oil lamp, hung it at his waist, and lit it, illuminating the space around them.
Godrick conjured a ball of light and suspended it above his head. It lit a slightly wider area than the little oil lamp.
"This wall is really sturdy." Zhao Si felt the damage left by his drilling.
His Digger No. 1 could bore over ten meters into the ground in a minute, yet it had only damaged the wall to a degree, without drilling through.
Thick enough, and sturdy enough.
Zhao Si picked up a broken brick and examined it closely. He spotted the gleam of metal inside, its silver color conspicuous.
"Look, maybe this is why the wall is so sturdy." Zhao Si showed it to Godrick.
Godrick studied it with a frown for a long while before understanding dawned. "Oh, oh, I remember now. They say that when some fortresses were built, molten iron was poured over the wall bricks to make them stronger. But it costs too much. Even Leyndell wouldn't do that."
"Haha, if you mixed gold into Leyndell's walls, even your Golden Lineage would go bankrupt." Zhao Si laughed.
"Right, and there really isn't much point in making them this hard." Godrick scratched his head. "Because the chances of breaking through a wall and fighting your way inside are too low. The walls are already thick and tall. Rather than spending time figuring out how to break through them, you might as well think about how to climb over them or destroy the gates."
Zhao Si nodded. "That's true."
Helena crouched and felt along the gaps between the wall bricks, getting a little liquid on her fingertips.
She asked, "What's this cold stuff?"
Zhao Si turned to look.
