Meanwhile, Asa Mitaka was at home, her mind filled with thoughts of Asaba Kotone.
Suddenly, the window opened on its own for some reason.
But Asa Mitaka noticed nothing amiss and immediately got up to close it again.
Only for a bird to suddenly appear right in her face, startling her so badly that she fell backward onto her bottom.
"An... an owl?!"
Asa Mitaka exclaimed.
"An owl? No, I'm a Lin Chi Bird."
The Lin Chi Bird, or rather, the War Devil, stood on the windowsill. "But that's not important. Your name is Asa Mitaka, right?"
"Y-yes..."
Asa Mitaka was scared senseless.
She had never seen a talking animal before, and there was something vaguely eerie about its appearance. It certainly lacked an owl's cuteness.
"Well then, I'm the War Devil. Make a contract with me."
The War Devil spoke to Asa Mitaka very directly.
"The War Devil?"
For a moment, Asa Mitaka couldn't quite process it.
In other words, this little animal in front of me is actually a devil?!
"That's right. I'm very powerful. As long as you make a contract with me, I can fulfill any condition you set."
The War Devil said.
"No. I don't want to make a contract with a devil."
Having come to her senses, Asa Mitaka immediately rejected the War Devil.
Her parents had been killed by devils when she was little, so she hated devils intensely.
Though she often heard that contracts with devils could grant wondrous powers far beyond those of ordinary people, she didn't want to help a devil.
"Oh, then I'll go kill that human named Asaba Kotone tomorrow. He's the one you like, right? You don't care even if the person you like is about to be killed?"
The War Devil spoke indifferently.
