"Shirogane, draw!"
Chisato Nishikigi murmured.
Amid the thunderous grinding of enormous gears, a metal arm gripping a silver greatsword emerged from Chisato Nishikigi's shadow and swung its blade fiercely toward Inuyasha!
The greatsword sliced through the air without so much as a whistle. Instead, it cut open a black rift as easily as slicing tofu.
Running on all fours toward the mountain forest after jumping down from the shrine, Inuyasha saw a blur, and a silver light seemed to sweep across the woods before him.
He stopped instinctively. An indescribable terror shot from his tailbone straight into his brain.
Just then, a crashing, rumbling noise rang out.
Slanted cracks appeared across the trunks of row upon row of towering ancient trees.
With a tremendous roar, the trees in the forest came crashing down, sending dust and birds into the sky.
At the sight, a bead of cold sweat trickled down Inuyasha's temple. He swallowed and asked in a trembling voice:
"Did something just pass over my head?"
What if he had taken just one more step forward?
The thought of his body being severed filled Inuyasha with terror.
Even a monster would never survive an injury like that.
And while Inuyasha was gripped by fear and shock,
the silver light flashed again.
This time, however, Inuyasha clearly saw the path of that light.
After all, this time it appeared right before his eyes.
It even moved very slowly, like an old woman walking, as if to let Inuyasha see it more clearly.
But as he watched the greatsword, its blade wider than his entire waist, slice through space inch by inch,
Inuyasha's legs trembled. He dared not move, yet staying still frightened him too.
The silver greatsword swung gently, slowly cutting open the space before Inuyasha.
